Well, my friend is getting a rig for rendering on Solidworks '09, and I'm looking at different possibilities for a CPU/motherboard combo. The Q9550/UD3P combo is $410, and I'm wondering if I could save him a bunch of cash by using the 720 BE (possibly the X4 920) and a good overclocking motherboard. Recommend one!
you know thanks for the post i think im actually gonna go with this board. =D id love to go with a dfi again but uh, i wanna try something new, just a quick question here, is this board an am3 board with ddr2's or just a am3 READY am2+ board??? its confusing the shttttt outta me since newegg lays it out as am3/am2+/am2 board...but i see it runs ddr2 1333 OC'ed ofcourse...

It's an AM3 ready AM2+ board.
And the UD4P has 8 phase power, which is a plus over the UD4.
I'm confused that most recommendation of AM3 ready AM2+ board. Isn't that AM2+ boards are at the end of their line? I really don't see the point of buying an AM2+ boards over AM3 boards. Since, the comming up CPUs are aiming at AM3 socket only. If you speak of DDR3 cost, you can get a 2gb kit at $25. So, why's not get AM3 board now?

yea thats for dual channel kits, but DDR3 its superior in its tri channel setup? and all tri channel kitsare expensive as hell....so which is why...and besides theres only upto about 5% gain going from ddr2 to ddr3...

False. You can get a 2GB kit of DDR3 memory that has no heatspreaders and runs at 1066 mhz. DDR2 is still cheaper, and I don't deem it necessary to get DDR3 if DDR2 is going to work just fine and be a bunch cheaper. Plus, it seems like the AM3 motherboards that just came out are pretty expensive.
Figured you guys would argue at the DDR3's price point. My point was that, you can upgrade to a better cpu and DDR3 in the future with AM3 MB. However, if you buy AM2+ boards now you are stuck with Phenom II 940 and DDR 2. Isn't that on April and forward, AMD CPU are AM3 socket only?

uh, am2+ boards can support AM3 cpu's just fine, they just won't be able to use ddr3, AM3 cpu's has both ddr2 and ddr3 mem controller...hope that helps?
