I have a slot motherboard, if I got an adapter would would my 1000mhz intel processor work to its full potenial or would it max out at 800 mhz

I'm using an adapter with a 900 MHz Processor in one of my rigs, so no... As long as the adapter is rated for that speed it should be fine.
I just put a slot 1 to socket 370 adapter in my Asus MB.
I had to update my bios to a beta version.

Went from a p2 400, 100bus to a p3 800, 100bus.
It's folding and overclocked at 897.

I couldn't get a p3 1Ghz 133bus to work.
I would think a p3 1Ghz 100bus would work.

^^ Correct ^^

One can not exceed the maxium of the board. If the board is 100MHz fsb maximum then the converter will only work at the rated board maximum. If you overclock via the board you will get the overclock maximum with the concurrent raise of agp/pci bus as well.

What's funny is that the MB and the slot to 370 adapter have 133Mhz pins.

If the motherboard shows 133 - 33 - 66 meaning 133fsb - 33pci - 66agp then that means your board actually does support the 133fsb.

It also might support it via overclocking. You can always try it out. Set your adapter and board to 133 and insert a 133fsb Coppermine. Then set the multiplier and see if it works. If it is out of spec, then it is doubtful you will make the 133 as the PCI increase will more than likely render the system instable. If it makes the transition, then you very likely have a board that supports the 133fsb. There is a possibility if that is the case that you can take the 8 X 100 = 800 Coppermine to 8 X 133 = 1064

What is the make/model of the board?
