Moving from a Zalman CNPS 9900 to a TRUE

As I'm quiet disappointed from the O/C level I've managed to get from the Zalman CNPS 9900 I'm thinking of moving to a TRUE and would like to know if it's really worth it.

Some facts first:
1. I've managed to get my i7 920 to 3.8 @ 1.24 and max temp of 71c.
2. I'm not going to lap it as I don't have the time/patience and we don't have Megahalem's here in Israel.
3. I'm not going to Push/Pull as 1c-3c difference seems pointless versus the noise gain.
4. I'm going to use this fan since it has speed control: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Produc...4&ID=1726#Tab1

Now taking these factors into consideration I would like a few answers if someone could be kind enough:

1. Will I be able to keep it under 70c with O/C around 4-4.2 and ambient temps that can reach 32-34c during summer.
2. Will that fan do the job?
3. Is it really worth the hassle or should I be happy with the final O/C results of the Zalman CNPS 9900?

Well it depends. Try to get you CPU stable at 4.0Ghz and see how m0ch voltage you need. Even if you reach 80C under load you should be fine for a bit. True should be a good 10C cooler.

You will probably see a 5C difference from the TRUE, another 2c if you lap both the CPU and heatsink. That's at the same OC.

Thing is, these things run HOT!

one way to reduce heat, is to disable Hyperthreading if you really have no need for it.

Even on high-end, quiet, water cooling (see signature system) @ 4.3ghz I hit 65C at the cores w/ only 1.28V
When I was on air, with a dark knight, max temp @ 4.2ghz with 64f ambeint and LOTS of fans after 1h30m of LinX stress testing I was running 86C on the hottest core. w/ 1.25v

Just something to think about

Do they sell Mugen2's in Israel? If they do, can the true and get the Mugen. I run a single coolermaster R4 that's quiet and keeps my i7 to less than 70c (19c ambient) clocked at 4.145ghz. It doesn't need to be lapped as the surface is nickel-plated and flat enough to run straight out of the box. The true will need to be lapped and pressure-modded to maximize it's potential

Otherwise the advice to turn off hyperthreading is a good one to reduce heat levels though who runs their processors at 100% 24/7? Do you fold? Mine idles at 34c in a (cool) 19c ambient. 2 of the coolermaster fans in a push/pull should drop it lower if you're running in a hotter environment (Israel? Yep!) though I couldn't tell you how much as mine has never had to have the second fan.

EDIT:
The coolermaster fan will run quieter than the thermaltake and provide almost 70cfm, a better choice imo

What is the idle temp with the zalman? and at what ambient? if you're just going to bench, 70-80c is perfectly OK to run.

Opps, saw the 32-34c ambients. You should be fine with your choices if you don't mind 3.8ghz. The only way you'd be able to tell the difference between that and 4.0ghz is benchmarks. Save yourself some $$$

Unless you're a benchmarker, the difference between 3.8 and 4.0ghz is negligible.

It's that 4Ghz borderline that I can't pass which really annoys me for some reason...

And yeah we have the Mugen here as well, is it a better option then if I'm not gonna lap? I was under the impression that only the Megahalem does not need lapping...
what exactly would hyperthreading do for a regular user that plays games?

The Mugen 2's base is impeccable.
