Hi, i have a pci raid card with 3x 500gb drives raided to 1.5tb. i need to swap this setup to a new pc, there are thousands of mp3 music files on the drives, if i plug in the raid card into the new pc put the raid card drivers/software on a seperate drive where the os is will i retain the files on the raid drives when i hit the on button or will the system re-build the raid array.
tnx.

That will work. You just have to be sure and hook up the drives to the same ports on the card and configure the newly installed driver (stripe size?) exactly as it was configured in the old install. If the array was a bootable array, then you're going to have two primary, active partitions on your drives. While that will work, there are some rough edges to running that way. For example, combining/resizing the partitioms on the array may not be possible. Also there will be drive letter issues, as the array, if it was bootable as the C:\\ drive, will now be renamed to some other letter, and even if it wasn'r the root drive, it may be renamed and you may not be able to change it's name back to what it was. But accessing your music files won't be a problem. And sometimes running fixmbr and fixboot on the drive will make everything good.

And why are you using a three drive RAID0 (I assume) to store music files? Kind of pointless, as access times really aren't an issue with music.

The usual: Back up all your files before attempting any nonsense like this.

Tnx for that advice, i raided the drives like that as i didnt know any other way to store the music in order, i do have the music on dvds so if it all goes wrong i can start again.
