I love looking at the amazing rigs that are built and the un-real scores that are achieved every day. However, like most, I am not swimming in cash.

I put a lot of effort into saving money with my choice in parts, and while maybe some people notice it, it is rarely talked about with the passion that we put into building rigs with the latest hardware.

I wanted to see a thread where people compared the performance of their rigs not only based on bench scores but also their cost.

Since the majority of the community built their rig for gaming I say we post our 3Dmark score and divide the marks by the total cost of your rig at the time you bought it excluding any hardware that doesn't have an impact on the test...

Items to be accounted for are:
_Mother Board
_CPU
_Video Card
_RAM
_Cooling (must include all cooling components for the pieces listed)
_Case
_Lapping and volt modding materials

3dMark06 score / total cost of components listed = Mp$ 06 ratio
you can also post your Mp$ 05 ration if you only use 3Dmark05
and you can also share your current Mp$ by looking at Newegg's prices and posting with the date

The interesting thing is that while I wish to be at the top of the list you will also see who is the most extreme if you look at the lowest scores.
SPREADSHEET IN THE WORKS...

CPU: $189
Mobo: $129
RAM: $88
VGA: $360
CPU cooling: $40 (counting cooler + fans)
Case: $20

Total: $826

I figured I wouldn't include shipping or tax on any of those numbers since it would vary depending on where you live.

*drumroll*

3Dmark06: 11181

That's 13.53 points per dollar. Damn this hobby is expensive

No CPU cooling yet, and I didn't include my case because I don't really think it affects my perfomance much as I usually run with the sides off...

CPU - $145 CDN
MOBO - $80 CDN
RAM - $110 CDN
VGA - $220 CDN

total - $555.00 CDN or $521.25 USD

5150 (avg. 3DMark06 score)

so 5150 divided by $521.25 would be...

9.88 points per $

I'm pretty sure he means price at the time otherwise there would be no skill in it. Every part would have the same price. Plus if you try to use current prices, where do you look? Ebay? Newegg?

Which is why I left out the prices from the total.

That means I'd have to download 3DMark06 AND reboot to Windows...

Ahh, righty

Anyway, we need to agree on a specific 3dmark to use since some people used 06 and others 05. Obviously they will get a way different ratio.

Prices from when they bought the computer will cause inconsistancies too.

The person that has most recently built a budget system will have the best ratio.

it should be the 3dmark version when your system was current. Also when it was purchased should be a stated thing
