As if relations between China and Google weren't already tense, it's being reported that the Chinese government has gone and blocked the Android Market in the mainland. There's no love lost between these two giant entities, though why exactly China has chosen to erect a firewall in five major provinces to block users from downloading Android apps is not yet known.
Google needs to stop messing with China.

What?

China needs to stop messing with foreign companies to favour their own.

I hope one day the EU and US blocks alot of chinese products in their market to give them a lesson.

Cheaper, but also potentially toxic and lead to infertility. I'm Chinese (born American), and I would never eat, drink, or put anything Chinese into my system. Too many stories about laced milk powder, toxic soft drinks, lacking or non-existent product regulations, etc etc.
they won't allow for people to spend money on American Software..
china wants to remain the worlds top exporter!

What about Chinese food?

That sucks that they block the marketplace. I would expect given the many el cheapo tablets being made and used uses the Andriod OS wouldnt be an issue.

The real sick part is actually WHY they have such strong filters over there... To make sure people don't get any "out of line" ideas and revolt or something.

That's because that's all we hear about China everyday, the negative news. If you haven't noticed, Western media never reports any positive news about China. I guess some people choose to only believe one side of the story, ignorance is bliss.

Regardless of what you think, 1.4 billion Chinese get by just fine everyday.

It's worse in the US, because the real sick part is they don't tell you. At least in Russia and China you know you're getting screwed.

I hear all kinds of news about China that isn't bad, on NPR's "western media".

I find it amusing you knock Western media for supposedly filtering what American's see about China, in a thread about China doing it. Irony?

I suppose you would fine with America blocking off its Internet to material that only the US government deems worthy? Yea....I doubt it.

Shame on you if you don't think NPR isn't infiltrated by corporations.
Maybe you take a second look at NPR.

Compromised news media at it's best.

This doesn't surprise me one bit. China seems to block alot of things. Filtered through so much and limited to the internet.

How do you know the blocking isn't already in effect? You think the government is going to send letters to every household and tell you, "oh hey you're being blocked from visiting certain sites, just thought you should know -Government". Like I said, in America they don't tell you you're being screwed, until it's too late.

If you ever get the chance go travel the world, go see and live in other countries, until then you'll never know how limited American freedom really is.

It actually goes the other way around. If China stopped exporting products, then the US and the EU are pretty much screwed for cheap labour. It's much easier to pay a person $5 a day for 12 hours of work than to pay another person $10 an hour for 8 hours.
Look around your house and see how many products are made in China. The PCI slots on all of your motherboard are made from China

... and the world economy collapses.

That'll teach 'em.

A lot of the comments on the thread are political. Cheap labor, Relationships between corporations and governments, media, and product quality control are political conversations that do not belong on the thread.
