I want to know if its worth taking the plunge on this motherboard since... well it looks awesome. Does anyone have this and knows how it OCs or plan to buy it? OR can vouch for MSI in general?

I've had a few MSI boards in the past. Every one of them lasted me until the next upgrade and then got passed on. I am also interested, actually, here is a review. It looks pretty decent.
I think it looks great. MSI has really stepped up their product lineup lately.

And the chipset cooling seems like it can get the job done. And lets not forget the quad-PCIe slot configuration.

I wouldn't mind giving this board a shot.
Sweet looking motherboard, could be the next big folding board in a year or so once DDR3 is super cheap.
I do! Just made the change a few days ago!

Board looks great and overclocks like a dream!

Any tips for me? I just got this board and I'm having quite a bit of difficulty doing ANYthing. I bought this board with the 955 of course, and 8 gigs of OCZ RAM @ 8-8-8-27, 1800Mhz, 1.9v.

I get a weird sequence of post beeps, after which my RAM defaults to 1066. I assume thats normal, after reading MSI's page on this mobo which has some disclaimers for OC'd RAM.

It took 6 tries for me to install the windows 7 64-bit RC without blue-screening, but that could be operator error...I was trying to tweak my RAM a bit to get it at rated settings. I left it all at default to get it to install properly.

My mobo refuses to do anything if I even look at the CPU multiplier funny. I upped it by 1, and it refused to post, refused to beep, just froze. I had to reset the CMOS (the little button is nifty). Also, the voltages are completely off-limits to me, all set to auto and uneditable

I'm fairly new to overclocking, so there's a decent chance I'm just an idiot. Any ideas?

update the bios dude. We here on OCN are either intermediate or pro overclockers and we know to update the bios to get the full affect of the boards bios and overclocking abilities.
I have the 790gx version that I don't want lol. Never opened.

It was a dumb decision lol.

I might just buy a x3 and use it for a linux rig.

I'd wait for the asus crosshair 3. The MSI board looks decent and probably might be. But if it does indeed take a crap. Then tech support will be what will kill it.

lol the crosshair 3 looks like crap... only 2 pcie express slots... WAY overpriced.... dont waste your money...

I vouch MSI, and yes like the other guy said ALWAYS update the bios before you begin to do anything, after getting the latest bios update it will overclock like a dream

here is Tomshardware review of the best AM3 board.. the MSI took the cake

You wish the crosshair 3 was crap. And that review. MSI didn't "Take the cake" the asus board would have one if it was cheaper.

Thank you! It clearly says that most of the editors would have chosen the gigabyte too.

Yea just some people think just because something looks good its "the best" I have to admit the MSI board looks the best no doubt. But that doesn't justify me buying it.
I've got this MB, but I haven't done much OC'n yet with it. I'll post on what results I get. I have clocked my x3 720 to 3400 MHz with it so far without changing anything except the multiplier.
Ok so I played around alittle bit last night. Here are a few results so far... doing big, but just a start. The BIOS on this board has so many options that I have yet to tackle. I used the newest version of AMD OverDrive 3.0 and had great results. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version via the MSI BIOS Update tool. So newest BIOS and newest AMD OD tool:

First test was bumping up the Bus without the mulitplier. I didn't go far with it, but I did get to 210 on the Bus without having to change any voltage on my Crucial which is running @ 1.6V.

Second test was applying the multipler. I got the BSOD when I went to 3.5GHz. So I went up on the CPU VID to 1.35V and I was able to get it to 3.5GHz without the BSOD.

Next I did a little bit of multipler and Bus. I got it stable at 210 on the Bus and 16.5 on multipler. Voltage was set to 1.35V on CPU and 1.6V on MeM. This put me at 3.465GHz.

This was just a little bit of OCing and I know I can get more. I've just got to play around with the Voltages some more. I'll post more results as I get new ones.

That board looks ridiculously sexy, it makes me jealous of AMD.
