until the voltages can be changed I don't see this one performing much better than the ones already on the market....that being said, it looks like a very well made card and I am sure will be quite nice cooling and performing. Wish it didn't have that blue on it but that's a small detail.

Curious to see reviews and prices for it.

yeah I feel you on the voltage part...I don't think the triple over voltage will do anything on the 600 series, since it is hardware locked...but who knows? maybe MSI has something up their sleeve

I'm a huge fan of the Twin Frozr coolers...that alone is probably worth it IMO

the article doesn't mention it...totally forgot to put it in the OP!

There are two SKUs, and they are the following

N670GTX PE 2GD5 915MHz Core (Boost Clock:980MHz)

N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC 1019MHz Core (Boost Clock:1079MHz)

So it looks like MSI is doing the same thing as Asus...both feature the same cooler & PCB...but one comes higher clocked than the other. It might be a binned GPU on the OC version

I hope the OC version doesn't come broken out of the box...

They reduced fan size even more, at least from the looks of it? Not sure how I feel about it, I had GTX560 448 with Twin Frozr III and while it was really cool, it also was extremely loud. Now I have Asus GTX670 TOP and it's inaudible at the same temps what my Twin Frozr III had. I think MSI Twin Frozr cooling is a bit overrated

I'm hesitant about the Twin Frozr because of the noise, personally. I know it's a damn good PCB, but it's never been among the more silent cards. It's still interesting though that even though it's among the most customized cards, its clock isn't as high as the ASUS TOP. It almost seems like ASUS pushed the GPU too much, and that the 670 isn't able to reliably get 1058MHz.

Right now, I must say that I'm considering cancelling my ASUS TOP order and getting a normal non-top ASUS. If the binning isn't good enough, the normal one seems like a much better choice as it's still the same card. Any extra overclocking is then only an added benefit. I guess what I could also do is still get the TOP, hope for a good GPU, and lower the clock if needed until it works. I paid basically the same price as the non-top version because I pre-ordered the thing.

i think it's still good to do this way. You will much more in control where to overclock your card, instead of psychologically down clocking it to see the results. I am quite happy with my Non-top very silent and decently cool card.

Thinking about getting one of these since my replacement for the non-TOP will not get in stock. I wish i knew what the back of these PE cards looked like (by the time I find out I'm sure it will be out of stock) the main reason I like the non-TOP and TOP cards is that sexy backplate.

I'm sure the fan noise on this will be nearly identical as the 7970 Lightning.

wow, just looked at some reviews on the 7970 Lightening. If fan noise on these cards are that bad, then I don't see the appeal of them.

And I too had to return my ASUS TOP card. It was stable at first out of the box, then issues kept cropping up and the fan started to develop an annoying whine around the 60-70% speed mark. I ordered a Gigabyte today as a replacement, hopefully that doesn't give me any issues. I do agree the ASUS design is second to none though, but if I can get a working card for $30 less and am hoping for some decent OC potential, then id say it's a better deal.

Yeah, if Gigabyte would just make a black PCB I would get it no doubt. Don't quote me on the fan noise though, but that is the latest release from MSI that would be comparble, I'll wait till actual benchmarks come out before I just dive in and purchase this PE, I'm just on edge from waiting for a couple weeks now for my ASUS card. Ansy if you will.

If the backplate is really important to you, you could always go this route:

would come out to the same price as the non-TOP ASUS.

From the description at Newegg:

Power Edition
- Triple Overvoltage: adjust the voltage of GPU, memory and PLL to unleash the potential of graphics card.
Power Editions are all about votage adjustments and over clocking. Looks like a great GTX 670.

Thats why I was confused. I've heard that the 600 series doesnt support overvolting.

Unless they improved the fans on the cooler from their 7970, I don't think I could tolerate the fan noise, especially with my case. I use a Corsair 500R, which has a big open side grill. In addition, my PC sits on top of a cabinet next to my desk at about ear level when sitting in my chair. The fans on my Gigabyte card by comparison are inaudible even under full load, as they never exceed 50%. I do know what they sound like full throttle though, as they run at full when in the bios or on system startup (I think all cards do this), and in gaming they never come close to that.

I'd certainly take higher potential overclocks with the possible ability to increase voltage past 1.175 (looking forward to confirmation on this), but for me, it's not worth the additional fan noise.

Ahh hah, I may have found my replacement gtx670....since the Asus one's don't seem to ever be coming back after my RMA. I'm looking at the pictures of the gtx680 lightning with its backplate and there seems to be a connecting piece of metal visible when looking straight at the ports. I'm guessing this edition may not come with a backplate....
