Hey guys. Basically what the thread title says.

CPU is going to be a Phenom II 940 BE. Looking for good performance and overclocking.

Which one will be better for me? I am going to be pulling the trigger on one tonight.

Thanks,

The K9A2 has been very reliable for folders. It gets mine vote, but it is a little biased.

Happen to have an extra long crossfire bridge you are willing to part ways with? I'm in need!

Oh yeah a79a-s all the way!

Sorry guys, this one is more for overclocking performance first. Not folding this time.

I know you are a good bencher. Would the foxconn board take me higher than the MSI board?

It will take you a little while to get use to the way the Bios works....It's not standard lol

We'll see. For the most part I've heard OCing is easier in AOD.

The BIOS on the A79A-S is a true tweaker's BIOS. That is how the pros are getting record OC's with this board. They know what they are doing.
It is true that AMD Overdrive is a great option to use on this board if you want simpler settings.
Just disable the Power Now option in the BIOS. That is the Foxconn version of Cool'n'Quiet.

The Foxconn is a far superior board than the MSI, and Newegg is practically giving them away with the CPU/Mobo combo deals right now, and there is even a $34 MIR to boot.

Ah I see. Thanks for the info. +rep

I'm getting excited. UPS expedited, so it should be here Friday.

Already got my Phenom II 940 BE sitting here taunting me. Can't wait

Dag, you quoted me before I changed it
No MIR or combo deals for you Canucks up there:swearing:
You will love that CPU and mobo together. Temps are really nice. I could not get the PhII 940 over 40*C at stock voltages, so it has a ton of head room to play with, and the Foxconn can use every last bit of that. The SB750 chipset is AMD's finest work to date

Haha

No need to worry, I got a better than ever deal on the Phenom II.

...And some people had me believing that Phenom II makes no difference being on an SB 600 vs SB 750.

I'm only finally getting to overclock with the K9A2.

They finally released a new official BIOS and there are still a couple kinks in it, but it allows me to set voltages correctly so I'm happy for now.
The previous official BIOS didn't even support the 940. I was so pissed when I got it a couple weeks ago... and I couldn't use it properly :swearing:

good luck with your OC

and we'll see if the SB makes that much of a difference(I'm kinda skeptical).

am using this one too i second to all votes for A79A-S and its true that the bios is crazy..but if you know what you're tinkering into you can squeeze that 940 on this one..
