First off this isnt Regulus but a friend who happens to have access to his account here. OK heres what happened. I have 3 HDDs. A 14 gig, a 40 gig, and a Maxtor 250 gig. The 14 has my OS and the other 2 have been just for storage. A while back I moved back home for the Xmas break and had my computer all nice and hooked up. I went for a day trip and came home to find my computer on a screen saying that the file C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM is either missing or corrupted. Angry at myself for not having my Windows disc with me, I got a copy of XP Corporate and installed it on the 250 gig. At that point everything started to act funny. Some files were corrupting on both the 40 and 250 gig and the OS I had put on the 250 gig was very unstable. So, in anger, I just unhooked my computer and decided to wait until I got back to my dorm where my original XP disc was. I got back and noticed the disc wasnt helping because I did the auto repair and it still wouldnt boot up. In frustration I backed up all I could from my 14 gig to my 250 gig, formatted the 14, reinstalled Windows and proceeded to begin updating my Windows back to normal. Everything was going ok when, as I restarted for some updates to take effect, a screen came up saying that my 250 gig needed to be checked for consistancy. The CHKDSK ran and when I got back on the computer, everything I had backed up was gone. Soon after, my Windows froze and when I restarted, it would just restart in mid boot. I decided to reformat and reinstall Windows AGAIN! This time the same exact thing happened and more files were erased from my 250 gig during the check for consistancy. I knew something was a miss because before, it said I only had about 20 gigs left when I knew I had about 100 gigs left. I highlited all the files on the 250 gig and checked the size and it only added up to about 134 gigs. So as the Windows died again, I reformatted and reinstalled AGAIN. I decided to detach the 250 gig for safety of the remaining files and got the Windows all updated. I got my videocard drivers and soundcard drivers back and everything was going ok so far. I decided to install Half-Life 2 on the 40 gig so as it was installing I left to get some food. When I came back, the computer screen was black and frozen. I restarted and now it said that both the 14 and 40 gig needed to be checked for consistancy. It checked the 40 and the 14 and restarted. Now all it does is check the 40, fix it, restarted, checks the 40, restarted, etc etc etc. Im at my wits end here. Does anyone have ANY idea how all this could have happened and what I should do to fix this dilemma?
