He gave me an old Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer, which he assured me would fit. I tried to look it up on the net to check, but he kept badgering me to put it on, so i turned it off, pulled out my 7950GT, and started looking. He complains because i'm "messing about with it" and snatches it from me, and then drops it on my foot. The little metal bits on the bottom make it hurt like a *****, i look up in amazing, and he says "if it doesn't work it's not my fault" and walks off! ***!

Thank god it still fits. Now i've gotta go find my AS5 he nicked, as he applied waaaay to much...

My dad doesn't know what a 7950GT, Artic Cooling Silencer, or AS5 is. Be glad yours knows something and is interested in what you are.
Funny story, though.

the thing is, he builds pc's, a lot of them, taught me pretty much everything i know - but in some things he knows NOTHING. He hates overclocking because he thinks slightly upping anything will kill it in minutes, and when i bought my Hyper he hated me doing it because "52 degrees load is fine" - not for stock, no!

He just doesn't "get" certain things. He has a Reserator, but only uses it to cool his 4400X2, which is stock. He has about 3 case fans which are very loud, and a 7800GTX with the stock cooler even though he has a water block

he doesn't believe me - he reckons that if it was that easy everyone would do it (well this whole forum does!) and that the manufacturers wouldn't make slower chips
You do know Intel underclocks chips so they can adjust the price? Think 5 CPUs all made for $15. And they can adjust the clock speeds to make a "budget" chip. And then they charge more for the "faster" chip.

Kinda. Most of the chips are the same, with the ones that turned out better getting a better model number.
