My first AMD build

So, my p4 (that's pentium) rig finally crapped out on me after 6 years of solid service and I figured it's about time to shoot for something newer and with better performance.

I'm going to be pulling the trigger on the rig in my sig either today or tomorrow and I was hoping to get some critiques from you guys on how solid a build it looks to be. This will mainly be used for word processing, watching movies, listening to music, video encoding, and gaming. The reason for the onboard video is because I intend to wait till the end of the month to pick up an hd4890 or perhaps a pair of the 4770s depending on how the performance reviews shake out.

I've pretty much made up my mind on everything except for which cpu cooler to go with. The cost of the scythe and some decent tim work out to be about 12 dollars less than the noctua (which comes with pretty decent tim) so the price difference is negligible in my eyes.

Well, that pretty much sums it up. What do you guys think?

Did you look at the Noctua NH-C12P ? I'm working on my first build and have looked at the GA-MA790GP-DS4H as well as the one you spec'd. I'm also looking at the Foxconn A7DA-S MOBO too. I don't know if you already have the Antec 300 or not but I'm going with a Cooler Master 690 and planing on so serious fan mod for cooling. Have fun

No, I haven't looked at the NH-C12P as I was under the impression that the NH-U12P was better. I'll have to take a look. I decided to go with this mobo because newegg has a combo deal with this and the 720 that takes $45 from the total cost making the board cost about 95 dollars before tax and shipping. I plan on going down to microcenter tomorrow because they have the antec 300 for $44.99 which is a hell of a price imo. Thanks for the well wishes and I hope you have fun as well

the C12P is the downdraft version of the U12P and I think its slightly more money. The Mugen has gotten alot of good reviews and for the price its great. The 300 is good deal I bought mine from microcenter back in the summer. One other thing with the 300 and U12P you wont be able to install the side fan just an FYI

Well, I placed my order last night. I decided to go with the Mugen 2 and I picked up some ocz freeze to go along with it. The only thing left to do is head over to microcenter to pick up my case and to pick up a copy of vista. Anyone know where I can pick up a cheap oem copy of vista home premium?

I say go for it but at some point, upgrade to a 4870 because they have one that's like $105 after rebates now.
