i dont know if these are still being used as often but for 19.99 at my local advance auto parts store i dont think i could pass up on using it for a bigger and better radiator then the one im currently running. ive looked at several faqs on here for shroud ideas. thank you to the community for that and i also saw how to put the proper barbs on there. today i found everything i needed at my local lowes for the barbs i picked up 1/2 by 1/2 female solder adapter for about 1.50 each and a small pipe cutter for 5 bucks and of course since i didnt have the stuff already laying around some propane and a propane torch giggity good fun so anywhere here are some first round pics of the bonneville with the new barbs and first coat of paint

Is that a heater core? They are supposed to be really good with shrouds and decent fans.

yep out a 77 bonneville. i am hoping it will be better and i find it a lot less expensive then paying for a triple rad and expensive high end fans. i think im gonna mate it with a couple of 150cfm 45db fans. of course im up to suggestions

Looks good, I am still using mine and it does a good job. Keeps my B3 quad under wraps for the most part lol.

Remember they keep getting better and better the more air you get thru them.

yes i know. what kinda fans are you using. i was thinking of picking up a couple of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185054 they are 133 CFM at 46db and about 10 bucks each. i was also considering some high flow delta around 150-190 cfm but i dont know if i could handle 60db+ tho that would hectic kinda loud.

Im actually looking at getting those also. I have two silverstones but want to do a push pull and those are cheaper. The silverstones are pretty nice though.

DONT GET THEM AT NEWEGG lol. Newegg for some reason charges you $4 for each fan for shipping. Its rediculouse. Go to someplace like crazypc or something. The shipping is more for one fan but its the same for multiple fans. I cant believe the egg is doing that ecspecially whey they will through them in the same box.

Those fans are totally overkill, I have a pair of med speed 140's on my 68 bonnie. my 3.8Ghz 920 + gtx 280 idles at 37,32,32,32 and load never touches 60C and is silent.

I'm using a slightly bigger heater core, but even when I set a loud 100cfm panaflo on top it only knocks a degree or two off...
Very nice.

One of those was the radiator of choice for my first DIY watercooling project.

Good luck and have fun, I will definitely be watching this thread.

Well he could allways get a fan controller and run them slower if he wants too. I personally would rather go overkill then end up short and have to change later on.

So how much did this all wind up costing you? It's an interesting project, but just curious, as all the "little things" add up pretty quick.

Depends on what tools you allready have.

At Dangerden you can get one with the fittings allready installed for $35 +s
http://www.dangerden.com/store/produ...&cat=14&page=1

I got mine at Napa about 3 yrs ago for $15, bought two fittings at lowes for about $.70 each and brazed them on. If you gotta get a torch and stuff you can usually get a kit for about $10 I think if I remember right.

yea i rather go overkill on the fans i used to run phase so really there is no such thing as overkill for me. i will drip every volt i can out of the cpu and need to make sure i have more cooling then i need. as for the total cost that ive invested so far. lets see id say around 60 bucks. but a lot of that includes some stuff that will be used again later. such as the torch and the propane and the paint and what not. as far as just bare min. it was 20 bucks for core and 1.50 for the fittings. thats not to bad for a killer cooler. i do look forward to having fun with this build the current setup i have just isnt cutting it my e2180 that i have not gets to hot around 3.4ghz and i know i can squeeze more out of this ive also decided to upgrade everything to 1/2 inch so that should help as well. as for the fan i did notice newegg charges more with shipping and everything would be almost 30 bucks i think thats a joke but when ya compare it to other fans that push less and cost the same and are as loud anyway heres a couple of pics of the finished paint job next is to figure out what i want to do with the shroud and what not and if i can make it an internal setup. ill probably be slapping it into an Armor+ or something sim. for the case

well there was a majorset back the fitting i put on it did not really fit 1/2 inch it was to small . i think its a special size for some piping or something so i unmounted them went to my local ace hardware and picked up the fittings that you can change out if ya want. like in the faqs. so anyway of course i toasted the paintjob which made me sad i just couldnt get to come out the way it did the firs time. im still stuck for an idea of the shroud i picked up a Armor+ and pretty much migrated my pc over to that and i want to fit in the case. but im just not sure how im going to do that. yet at least. anyway once i have a chance ill post up some pics. and maybe some of the other upgrades ive done to my cooling system. such as swapping out all the parts from 3/8s to 1/2 and a nice top swap for the mcp355 along with a new double res to top everything off.
Hate you cooked off you paint job, that was slick looking. Its always something with this stuff, who knows the next paint job might even be better.

Bonnies are good rads, Martin tested one of Dryadsouls and it was about like a 320 Swifty or 360 BIP.

I'm sure you have already seen these shroud guides but I'll leave them just in case. Look forward to seeing you build!

thank and yes i came across one of your other post that had them in there. i was thinking of doing a modified version of the performance one looks pretty simple i just need to slim it down some to fit it inside the case, i want to keep everything internal so its a work in progress im still waiting for my reservoir to show up so i can start mocking up the loop so i can figure out where to stick that thing. its huge compaired to the other heater core i was use. heres pic of the old vs new. and yes the paint job was very well done about 8 coats of some good gloss and now its just blah

the second pic is the entire motherboard wired up completly except for case lighting and stuff and where i was thinking of trying to mod the rad into. right below it is 2 fan i have 120mm in there now but i can put 2 140mm but there isnt much room for me to work due to the video card and its cooling fan i was planing on buying a gtx260 and just throwing that into the loop as well so that might free up some room for me to work.

Thats a nice guide d3 made, really easy to follow and they look great when your finished. I usually just bend my coil stock between a couple of 2' roofing squares that I c-clamp together at the ends.

Thats a tight fit in there no doubt about it. Should look slick once you get it all in there. I always tried to keep mine out of the case for a little better cooling, but thats just me, they do look better self contained most of the time.

What was that first HC a Chevette core? I still have a couple of those I use on little side loops a lot. Nice little rads.

Thanks for the pic's! Its looking real nice so far.

im not sure what the little core is from it was already mount in the system to be used for a vga loop when i was running under phase for the cpu. i ended up dropping the phase and just using it for liquid at the time. it worked but its time to move up to bigger and better so i can push farther and father

haha ira's right that smaller HC is off a Chevette. same size i use on my CPU ^_^ b

HC's are great things, especially if you are either cheap or just like DIY stuff. they're a pain to mount though, especially the big ones. but it looks like you'll have space in that big TT Armor to keep it inside.
so ive got the heatercore just laying on the 2 120mm fans at the bottom of the case and i have a makeshift loop running untill i get my reservoir on monday and i noticed the fans are not making any difference at all on my temps. with it turned on or off. i find that kind of odd. anyway ive got my e2180 running at 3ghz with 1.4vcore and when i occt it with out the fans i run mid 50's on the temp and 31 at idle this is according to the core temps and not the cpu temp. so im curious just how good is the rad in a passive cooling mode and how much better can i expect to get with a shroud and proper fans. also if anyone wants to see some of the pics you can check them out on my myspace page. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/inde...lbumId=2721383 you do need to have a myspace account to see them but who doesnt really have one of those you know. there is also some pics of my old set up as well that i upgraded from . once i complete the project ill sort through some of the better pics and post those up in the thread.
