This has been many weeks in the making. It started because I replaced my 8800GTS512 with a GTX 260 and I needed something to do with my "old" 8800.
I decided I did not want to let it go to waste so I built a GPU folder around it. Most of the parts were bought used from OCN. I have been waiting for about 5 weeks to get this up because of a member here giving me some hassle about the EVGA 680i which arrived to me DOA. I finally got it straightened out and my new system is up and running!! It will be officially online and folding tomorrow afternoon. It will be in my friend's dad's office and will also be used as a Teamspeak server. I know I am missing the NB fan.
I thought I had two, but I cannot find them! I have no idea where they are at. The NB is running around 57C or less so I think it will be ok. I am probably going to try to find a fan for it eventually. The case will be directly beneath an air conditioning duct in a closet so I hope it will be OK.
Specs:
Q6600 lapped (From my previous rig)
EVGA 8800GTS 512MB (From my previous rig)
EVGA 8800GTS 512MB (Might add a 3rd around Christmas)
Corsair XMSII 2x1GB
EVGA 680i
WD 74GB Raptor
Antec 300
2x Scythe SFF21F fans in front
Silverstone Zeus 650W PSU
XP 32
Xigmatek HDTS1283
Nice. You gonna be SMP folding on it also?
Only thing I would look at getting Vista for that so the CPU cores are not being used so much. XP will use an entire core per GPU2 client.
Also, can the HSF be turned 90° to vent out of the top instead of the rear?
Yes, Dranom finally got ahold of me and we got it taken care of.
I got a great deal on the Raptor, that is why I bought it. I believe I got it used for around $55 or 60 shipped. I was going to spend just a little less on a small HDD, so I figure, why not get the faster Raptor? I initially had a used 80GD IDE HDD but it was SOOOO SLOW. I took it from a friend when I re-did her PC that someone who did not know anything about anything built for her. I did not know it was so slow, so now I am just going to put a bullet through it.
No, I do not plan on running SMP right now. This rig will be an hour away from me so if anything goes significantly wrong, it will not be easy for me to fix it. I also do not have access to this building as it is my friend's dad's office. This computer will also be used as a second backup for office documents.
*EDIT* I bought an 8800GTS512MB for a client's build which will not be built until late November... so I put that 8800 in here, too. I think I am going to keep it and just buy him another video card when it comes time to build.
So now I am running 3 8800s if the PSU can handle it!
AFA the HD, You don't need quick or even fast times on the hd. You could run it off and old zip drive if you wanted and it would not hold up the client.
Ok, change of plans. I could not use the third GPU because the PSU cannot handle it. We had it folding for about 5 minutes and it instantly shut itself off. I believe this was due to the PSU being inadequate.
We set the thing up and left it running, but it appears as though we are getting the EUE error. I don't remember how this is remedied. We remove one of the files, right? But then do we have to continue to remove that file or will this be a one time fix?
