I would like to share my nightmare and fix with installing Microsoft office pro 2013 incase it might help someone else.

my wife works for a large company here in Washington state as a buyer of computer parts and software.
she ordered 400 copies of Microsoft office pro 2013 today for a number of her customers therefore the rep gave her a free
copy for us to use at home as I was still on office pro 2003 which loses support next month, although office pro only comes with 1 pc key and I have my tower and 3 laptops. so I installed it on my tower by using the disk and kept getting error code 330088-22 which seems to be a common problem per the Microsoft tech support site.
I followed all the instructions from tech support 3 times with no luck so I gave up on that.
so I went to www.office.com/downloadoffice and selected the option for having a disk but no disk drive, this way I was able to download office from there, but first I had to create a office account. so after downloading to my desktop the program installed without getting the error code.
so after install it asked me to enter my key which I did but it said it was not a valid key, even though when I downloaded the program it asked for and accepted the key, so I went back to the office web-site signed in and found a place where I could enter the key and activate it again.
so I opened office up again and this time it accepted the key but it said outlook was not installed correctly and to re-install it, well I could not find it in the folders to re-install it so I once again signed back on to the office site and selected repair office with online support.
it proceeded to uninstall the entire office program from my system and then re-installed it and I had to go back through the entire activation process again.
so after 2.5 hours my copy of Microsoft office pro 2013 is working, but the disk I have is useless, I even put it in other systems in my house just to see if it would show the same error code and would not install and that's exactly what happened.
mind you I had to figure all of this out for myself as Microsoft tech support had no idea what to do about their so called fix for the error that would not work.
also this package the rep gave my wife was completely sealed, I'm glad my 2 free crucial ssd's from the micron rep had no problems.
oh well office was free so I guess I am happy as it's a $399 program but what a nightmare. I never have had problems with software installs. my office 2003 was given to us back in 2003 the same way but it came with unlimited keys.

There's a good reason that big business isn't moving forward with Office 2013. You found out why, first hand. Most of the companies I work with that have more than a few hundred PCs installed are sticking with Office 2010 for now - some are still running Office 2007, at least the ones that aren't Exchange shops for e-mail.

you got that right.
I installed LibreOffice on my other systems, took about 7 minutes including the download, and it's free.
also installed Thunderbird for e-mail on my other systems.
it just stinks that Microsoft charges 400 bucks and you only get 1 pc key.

although my copy was free, but what about others that have to pay for it.

Been a heavy Microsoft advocate since I got into computers when I was a kid. After I finish university, I'm moving away from most of their products. Office Libre is free as in beer and I can't wait to migrate to it soon.

Microsoft products are powerful in the right hands, but paying for software which I think should come as basic add-ons for an operating system is ridiculous in this day and age.
