hey everyone.

i just Overclocked my Q9550 to 4.0ghz. it passed 9hours of small FFTs on Prime 95, but now i want to play farcry and it freezes while farcry boots up...!

these are my settings on my bios.

cpu ratio: 8.5
FSB Freq: 471
PCI Freq: auto. 100
FSB starp to NB: 333
Dram freq: DDR2-943
Dram CLK Skews: All Auto
dram timing control: ALL Auto

Dram Static read Contril: disabled
Dram Read timing: disabled
MEM.OC Charger: disabled
AI Clock twister: auto
AI transaction booster,: auto

CPU VCore: 1.30
CPU GLT V Referance (0/2): 0.675x
CPU GLT V Referance (1/3): 0.680x
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.54
FSB Voltage: termination: 1.28
Dram Voltage: Auto or 2.2
NB Voltage: 1.28
NB Glt referance : 0.660
SB Voltage: auto
PCI-E voltage: auto.

LLC: disabled
CPU Spread Spectrum: disabled
PCI-E Spread Spectrum: disabled
CPU clock skew: auto
NB Clock skew: auto
CPU margin Enhancement: optimized

C1E support: disabled.

can you help me... play farcry..?

thanks,

that setup seems fine except the NB voltage
increase that thing to 1.38v-1.4v and see what happens.
Small FFTs only stress the CPU. Your problem is probably the NB being unstable. Bump the voltage up a 1-2 notches and then run P95 in blend, or IBT. (Setting to stress a lot of ram)
i put the NB Voltage at 1.38 and my computer still freezes when i start farcry..! and iam running a blend test..
Try running memtest just to make sure it isn't the RAM
1) Try lowering your multi to 6 and then start Far Cry. If you still fail you know it is not the vcore. I recommend this so that we can for sure eliminate that possibility.

2) According to the settings you posted you are running your ram 1 to 1 with a 333 FSB strap. This doesn't seem right. Set your FSB strap to auto. Then set your ram speed where you want it.

3) Set your ai transaction booster to manual and loosen the setting from whatever the bios is auto setting it too. This will take stress off your NB. 1.28 NB is probably too low. 1.38 seems like more than enough. That is why I say to do this the ai booster is very important to NB stability.

I put the Ai transaction booster to manual and my computer didnt tern on, i had to reset cmos..
make sure your pci-e is at 100 and up your sb voltage. sounds like io issue bus issue to me.

You're welcome.

I don't know anything about that.

But with all due respect, try to use these buttons more often:

(you can double-click this too)

and
(think of this one the same way that you think of checkboxes)

If you keep multi-posting like this, the staff here might think you're trying to increase your post count.

You will have to play with the settings to get it right. In my bios when it is set to auto it will tell you right below it what the bios is setting it to. It might be setting it too low. The lower the number the faster and more stressful it runs.

On my setup if I start going higher on my FSB I have to increase the number on my transaction booster.

Here is a quote from an old thread where I first learned about this:

Just to demonstraight how important Transaction Booster is, I can run 423 FSB with Trans of 7 on my X48, but it wouldnt boot at 424 FSB without changing the Trans to 8.

As for NB and FSB Term votage, it looks really high. Try running FSB Term at 1.26v and the NB at 1.34v.
Here is the original thread if you want to read the context.

Keep in mind too that a 471 FSB is starting to get up there on a P5Q. Heat could be playing a factor too. Are you keeping you NB cool enough?
