My opinions of vista 64 ultimate after a month

So i've been running it for around a month now and have to say I love it, thought my gaming days would end but actually it's played everything i've thrown at it. Sometimes needed a few fixes here and there but generally got games playing fine. Had no crashes, stable and quick. Only gripe is I wish more applications where 64bit but can't have it all.
Can't wait to move onto windows 7 when it's released.

For anyone wondering if it's for them I say definatly install vista 64 if you have over 4gb of ram, if not go for the 32bit version, thats what I would have done anyway.

With that said, you notice the performance drop? I did

Widnows 7 on the other hand I heard handles like a fine bread race horse, with out the crazy.

How much of one and where?

Vista has a bad rap and it really is fine. I didn't notice any decrease in gaming performance, but I am also not an FPS whore. I think many people who do not want to try it would end up liking it.

Can't say I have scored 5.9 on the advisor, also this is a complete new build, came from windows xp on a athlon 4800x2, 2gb ram, x1900xtx system. So I wouldnt know lol. Be interesing to see performance on windows 7 though.

I used vista once. Was on an older computer with just 2gb of ram and a kinda slow proc. 32-bit version. I hated it. I can now honestly say that using vista 64 on my sig rig i love everything about it. No problems. I have been shown the light!
Vista isnt as bad as most people make it out to be, yeah it was rough in the beginning, but it has been smoothed out pretty well, i have had no major issues with vista at all on my desktop.

I love it, I haven't even noticed a performance decrease in hardware to be honest, I think its just a matter of making sure the rig is up to par for vista, as I have to agree you do need a decent rig for it to run well.

+1. I used to dual boot with xp, after sp1 i stopped, theres no reason to anymore, vista is better than XP (or at least as good) now.

I can't believe people still believe that Vista is useless. Sure it had a slow start but it is a solid and completely usable OS now. I have Vista HP on my laptop and haven't once thought "oh I wish I had XP again."
I had 7 (yes, I know this is a Vista thread) and the only issue I had was with File Sharing from XP, Vista, Server 08, and 7 together. XP Pro, couldn't read the 7 machine, and everything else could.

That being said, I am now going to Vista Ultimate for my HTPC type build, because I know I can look at shares on XP with that.

its amazing how many people still do. Microsoft really caught it in on the chin with Vistas launch. It amazes me how many people will go out of there way to revert to XP. I only use xp on my work laptop because its what it came with lol.

My laptop and Desktop at home are both Vista all the time, and my laptop is isn't quite up to snuff for vista, it is a core duo t2250 that doesn't even support 64 bit operations.

I do notice a performance difference on the laptop for sure from Vista to XP, but i'm using an almost 3 year old laptop that was built on seemingly dated tech as it was, plus its got a stupid 7600go with crappy HP driver support in it

I couldn't imagine running my desktop with a 32 bit xp and my rig isn't even up to most peoples high-end standards anymore, if it ever was.

and to GH0 I had no problems connecting an old Hp desktop running xp while i was checking out 7... I know networking xp to vista isn't the quickest connection it seems, but that could be my network. I wish I could remember what I did...

Ive been running Ultimate x64 for about 6 months now, and I can say with ease, that Vista has come a long way and Im very content with its performance. In the beginning it was a headache mainly because of drivers. Those have gotten better as well, but it seems that Microsoft did it to themselves because of trying to hide anything and everything about their OS, manufacturers didnt get the adequate time to produce and research proper solutions for their hardware. I guess my only gripe right now, is the lack of ability to use a 64bit browser effectively 24/7 without workarounds, patches etc etc. I really like the speed Ive seen using IE64 but its just not mature enough for daily use. Adobe needs to get off their hind ends and get flash for 64, or better yet these developers need to step outside the box and try using different platforms. Theyve had over 2 years to get it right, and here we are still no progress.
64bit browser is an absolute must, and really I wont go back to IE until 64bit is working for 100% use, ill just stick with Firefox for the time being.
