I have no kids and I'm all alone in my room. I'm here sitting on the floor with my laptop and my iPhone, timing when it's going to turn back on.

I have tried re installing Windows and resting the BIOS. This is a new system. It's no more than 24 hours old

I don't think I've heard of any issues with Windows 8 randomly starting a machine...

It likely has Wake on USB on by default so resetting the BIOS doesn't do anything thing. Go into the BIOS and manually set it to off or unplug your mouse and Printer.

Wake on LAN typically isn't enabled by default, but you should check that too.

If that doesn't do it there is probably something defective with the mother board

Well, you could have a priest exorcise it or you could call ghost busters.. or try resetting your CMOS. I dunno if that will help or not but it always helped me when I had random problems.

Same here.. I never heard of such thing. BUT I saw it happened to one of my machines.

Am I being dumb, or am I the only one looking at the most obvious thing to check first: A badly wired power switch. That would be one of the first things I'd look at after comfirming OS and Bios settings

EDIT: Turns out it was the settings! I was a little late!
