My phase change project

Hi. although im new to these forums, ive been overclocking for a while now, and i built my own watercooling system that is working well (29 idle, 38 load even though it is not 'professionally' made) and i want to upgrade.

I am using this tutorial to buld my own phase change cooler---literally from scratch, more from scratch than my watercooling eve. i want to know if any one with a lot of experience can help me out as i understand the science flawlessly--but the machanics of it are kinda hard. i want to know if this tutorial is good, any suggestions, and i need a junkyeard like place w/ cheap 1/4-1/6 HP compressors as i have every thing else built (condensor/evaporator, r134a refrigerant, reservoir, tubing, etc.)
EDIT: never mind i cant find the tutorial......it was from overclocking.com or something like that
uhhhhh.......can someone a nice tutorial

also HOW MUCH r134a do i need? how many 12oz cans should i buy?
I used propane and a normal gas grill propane bottle, its cheaper and its about the same temps.
lol and explosive!
Nah, i did a test with it and it doesnt explode just creates a stream of fire

sorry i know that people are using it as a cooler but have you actually compared the two because HFC's Hydroflurocarbons (like R134a refrigerant) are much better at absorbing heat because they have a much higher specific heat than regular Hydrocarbons (like propane). also r134a is used for cars and AC as well as refrigerators...so i think its better. but yeah, if i can't afford it, ill go to propane
wow i take it back...didnt see your mod.....

how much did u spend on compressor, condensor, and evaporator? cause mine from junkyard look like crap but works

How exactly could you possibly establish that your compressor works?.
I mean... Isn't it impossible without attaching it to a working phase change loop?. Otherwise it wouldn't generate work(generate liquid out of gas).

How can you use propane? Doesnt it have to be a refridgerant?

No, propane is a hydrocarbon and it shares the same characteristics as the commercial refrigerants. It condenses and evaporates at the same ballpark temperatures, so it is suitable for use in a phase change system. The cons include its volatility and that it is not as efficient as the commercial gasses.

I found most of my stuff on ebay because shops near me didn't sell any of it. I also had 3 or 4 visits to Lowes. If your lookin to go propane I have a couple tools you may need listed here:
Vacuum pump:

Manifold:

Ill also throw in my propane bottle to manifold adapter I picked up at Lowes for like 10 bucks free.

Yea sellin my mod too

Um... heres a compressor (mine was 1/3 hp) :

Youll have to do some research on it to make sure its a good one for your system.
You could probably use this as a condensor:

Hope it helps.

you see...you built profressionally, spent more than already bult ones even more than brand-name....
im a poor but smart and resourceful geek.... all i have is $70 but i got most of what i need....even so mine will look ghetto and wont get - temps

and yes i know compressor works for sure, tested it with electrical measuring equip, barring a mech. broken in the motor it should work...so im 80% sure

i want a detailed faq on how to build a phase change system. i have 2 good ones but i need one that doesnt use long words, cut and dry...
You are probably already well aware of this one, bu here it is anyway:
http://www.vr-zone.com.sg/?i=713&s=1
http://www.vr-zone.com.sg/?i=714&s=1
*****, its aight, summer comes = job time = money, dont rush it.

Basically to sum up the Vrforums one. Make sure you have correct oil in compressor for the gas your going to use. A propane gas will use just about any oil for compressor as long as the compressor has oil double check. Then in hook up it goes. Compressor 1/4 3/8 pipe to condenser 1/4 3/8 pipe to dryerfilter capilary tubing = .28 = 7 foot is min to evap block. 1/4 3/8 back to input of compressor. If your compressor does not have a fill port add one right before it gets back to the compressor and you add a "U" to provent slugging (liquid getting back to compressor). Thats the easy part

then charging it and making it perfect is teadious. Make sure you don't have leaks. You also have to Vacuum the system out to get all the air and moisture out so you need a vacuum pump or another compressor although it isnt recommended unless you have like 3 in a row.
