In my long search for a worthy mouse without defects i gave the Razer Imperator a try. I will compare it to my G500 because they are more or less competitors.

First, the positive things i have to say about the Imperator.

The shape is similar to the G500 but the deep thumb rest makes the mouse feel thinner, add that to the slightly lighter weight makes the Imperator feel more nimble compared to the G500. I also enjoyed the rubber skin on the top of the Imperator to the plastic that is found on the G500 top.

The Imperator also has a more slick glide compared to the G500 but the glides are pretty thin so i wouldn't expect them to last very long compared to the decently thick G500 glides.

If you don't lift your mouse off the mouse pad and reposition it a lot the mouse tracks very smoothly. I was expecting a headache with different surfaces like i had with the CM sentinel because it shares the same phillips twin eye sensor but the Imperator worked fine on all of my mouse pads. A small detail that some might be interested in, the lift off distance is identical to the G500 on the puretrak talent cloth pad, they both track at the height of one DVD but stop tracking at two.

Now to the problems i had with the Razer Imperator and why it is being returned.

The number one deal breaker i had with the Imperator is with its Z-axis tracking problem. This is when you lift the mouse and set it back down the mouse cursor jumps and will not be where it should be, this makes the mouse unusable for me unfortunately. If i pick up the mouse and set it back down exactly where it was the cursor will always move a large distance diagonally down and right. I thought i was setting it down at an angle or something but no matter what angle i set the imperator down the cursor or cross hair will always move down and to the right. I made a quick video to demonstrate the problem, this is just me quickly tapping the mouse up and down off the mouse pad to magnify the problem. As you can see the G500 is very stable and does not suffer from this problem at all.

The sides are too slick, Razer needs to apply that great rubber coating on the entire mouse, it would be a great improvement.

I don't like the left and right click buttons on the imperator, the clicking feels stiff and sticky. The G500 buttons rebound quickly with a crisp feeling that i prefer.

I think that about covers my experience with the Razer Imperator, remember this is just my opinion, others may be perfectly happy with their Imperator.

. thanks for the review nevertheless, rep+
If razer somehow released a firmware to fix the z axis tracking and the click jitter then this would be a perfect mouse for me. But i am personally not willing to set a $70 mouse on the shelf and patiently wait for razer to release firmware updates to fix problems that might not even be fixable with the phillips twin eye sensor.

You do anything special for that pickup and put down test? I don't recall ever having a mouse that didn't move at all like this video shows for the G500.

Edit: I guess you just put it lowest sensitivity, just did that on my G9.

Both tests were with the same 800 DPI and the same counterstrike sensitivity. The G500 bounces around as well, every mouse will when you pick it up and reposition it. But the imperator is the only mouse i have had that has that annoying dramatic movement.

Now on to the smaller annoyances instead of the huge deal breaker above.

Another problem was that the cursor would jitter or wobble around as you clicked any of the buttons. I tried this on my talent and my 4HD thinking the problem would be solved with a harder surface but the cursor still danced around. Exact same issue as in this mamba video (same sensor), start from 3:28 for a good example.

No, I don't son. That's called an honest review. I actually use a 3G deathadder over the G500 and the MX518 or anything logitech.

Now crawl back into your cave, troll.

You could always sell it. Someone gullible enough would always exist to buy it.

Contact razer support and tell them that the Imperator's Z-axis problem is unacceptable for you. They might send you an alternative mouse like a deathadder or abyssus + a mouse pad to cover the cost difference.

Even though I already returned my Imperator for a full refund Razer contacted me and sent me a deathadder. So they can be helpful and do care about making their customers happy with their products.

anyone have trouble with the imperator drifting around? I think I am having the problem with my mouse, but it could just be on my computer, since i tested it on a few other computers and it seems to work fine (but i am going to do some more intensive testing soon). My motherboard advertises "3x usb power" could this be an issue for my mouse?

Also dont tell me to get a new mouse
