I've also tried plugging their HD into another computer, and scanning their HD (disk F) using the other computers virus scan (AVG 9.0).
I also attempted to run a check disk using the command chckdsk /F through the other computer, but it just rebooted and checked disk C. :swearing:
I should also note that when I attempt to look at, or display disk F's properties through my machine, It refuses to load/open/display anything. I just receive a "thinking" hourglass.
Reformatting is an absolute last resort, is there anything else I could try?
the cool thing about the UBC is that you can also install programs, so if you have an anti-virus on a flash drive, you can install it and check the drive...just don't reboot after installing, since it's all in the RAM drive
you might need to change the default settings though...it uses only a 100MB RAM drive, so maybe it's not enough...just increase it on boot
I'd be inclined to say, if it's this tough a fella to get rid of, write off the contents of the drive and slap an OS CD in, reinstall and call it a day.
Am surprised bootable AV CDs are barfing. Are you using the very latest incarnations of such and being sure to set the boot order so they are booted first?

Cool! This program has a lot of stuff, and the fact that you can add even more is awesome. I'll see if I can't put AVG on this thing.

The drive has things on it that my parents need, and failed to back up (typical, lol). And yep, I'm using the latest and using the proper boot order.
