What would be a nice laptop for a budget of $1500? I'm looking for a price-performance kind of thing. I checked Alienware and Dell so far..What you guys think? Recommend me a laptop or should I say "build" me one

With that budget you can get a good laptop.
A customized hp would be 1517$ with:
Intel Core 2 Duo 7200 (2.0 ghz)
17" brightview 1680x1050
512 Mb geForce 7600(i think it's a GS)
HP imprint + microphone + webcam
1GB RAM DDRII
100GB 5400rpm
DVD-RW LS
and a
High Capacity 8 cell battery

That's a pretty good laptop, and you will able to play heavy games with it!

The nVidia Geforce Go 7700 is the newest graphic card of Nvidia..
It has 512 Mb Dedicated and a GPU and 80nm...

It does not perform as a 7600 GT, but it dont suck such juice... The 7600 GT, 7800 GS/GT and the 7900 GS/GT/GTX has GPUs with 90nm... Thats to you have the laptop always using the electricity...

To me, its an excelent choice...

(Sorry my english, but I'm a portuguese...)

Yes, they exist... I know an Asus with those characteristics, but I don't remember the model... Go to the Asus site and search for it...

You can buy an external tv tuner , it will be expensive (100$) but you get more functionality than in an integrated tv tuner.
I'd recommend getting a mac book, now that they hve C2D's and start at $999.99, it's a pretty good deal. Also, if you need to have Windows on it, you can install XP using boot camp.

Yup. Those new macbooks look tasty ! Though I'm convinced you could find better specs for 1500$...

The external tv tuner would give you more functionalities like a component cable in(like ps2 one) and you could use it in any computer..........

I saw on some french forum that the a8Js are awful. Looking at it from the specs it might be really teasing, but some of the forum's followers said that it overheated way too easily, some had them crash in a few days, poor customer service... and the battery lasts barely 3 hours (awful for a 14incher...)
