4890 or a 5770
5770 doesn't have the raw power a 4890 has (it's closer to 4870), but it supports DX11, Eyefinity, has very low TDP, noise etc.

It's a series of trade-offs really; go with whichever you find more important =)
Well i would really like DX11, but is the 5770 going to be a bad DX11 performer even though it supports DX11 just like some DX10 cards cant run DX10 games.

And what will give me better framerates in games such as bad company 2. Because thats the main reason im building this rig.

Well you'd have to put both cards against each other in DX10 since the 4890 won't support DX11.

Even still, saying which would perform better would be purely speculative at this point (though I'd assume the 4890)
Depending on optimization, the 4890 may only come ahead by a few FPS or it could have a substantial lead...until the benches are out there's nothing definitive.

This is a 3dmark bench:

Check the whole post because he has has overclocks mixed in there.

I would take the 5770 if you wanted DX11, but the 4890 if you want performance.

Those are synthetic benches; obviously the 4890 is going to win there...

OP if you want to know for sure which card will perform better, you'll need to wait for actual game benches.
A 4890 will typically out-perform a 5770, but depending on the the game that margin varies.

I found them:

It's got sections, so it's not on the first page.
Still not for this specific game, as it's not released yet.

You can see from various benches with games already out that the 4890 performs better sometimes, while others the 5770 does...
Hence why I said to wait until the actual game is released (if which provides better frames is the end-all-be-all for which card to buy).

If by the new game you mean a DX11 game, the 4890's not going to run it.

If it's not a DX11 game the 4890 will be better for IT, but not for DX11 games for the obvious reasons.

I'm confused, what matters most?

You didn't read the previous posts in this thread then.

OP is referring to Bad Company 2, which will support DX11 and will not be released until March 2010.
I am referring to which card would speculatively have better FPS in DX10, as the 4890 would obviously not support DX11.

Since the game is not not released yet, there is no indication of optimization or how any card will perform regardless of what DirectX version is being used.

Bottom line...we won't know till we know.

Found the post!

Then I agree with candy_van.

This is my opinion.

If it supports DX10: 4890
Only DX11: 5770

HOWEVER, DX11 will look better than DX10, so it's not really possible to compare the two, because they are different graphically.

I really don't know. Stalemate, anyone? We wait, I say.
I would go for 4890 PCS+ for the budget it has avery good cooler and is 256bit VS 128bit of the 5770 you will have much more frames in games though does not have dx11 but i prefer frame rates high...
So it does have dx11 and? Is still slower than 4890... the games that use dx11 also run in dx10 i just said that i prefer the 4890 pcs+ over the 5770 If we were talking about 5850 i had no doubt at all. More FPS -> 4890 New tech and playable games -> 5770. Good frame rate and DX11 -> 5850
