530 Views 17 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Mootsfox
Im building a computer for my buddy

165 opty
7900gs
5x 80mm fans

He has a 450w xclio, will this work?
If not what is a good cheaper PSU I can pick up for him? I use a more expensive one, and never have really tried a cheaper one, any suggestions?

He will be overclocking!!!!

My Hipro powered my friends A64 4000+, 7900GTX, and 250GB HDD's x4 when he was trying to see if his PSU was giving him problems or not.

No problems.

So for $36, you pay for a lot for a little.

I have the setup below and was using a aptiva 520w psu, and it just was not cutting it. Every time i would push the video card at all i would get a message saying it was not getting enough power. And my processor was not overclocked yet, im still at stock till i get the 600w ocz. A better psu with more power. The aptiva was 59.99 and the OCZ is 119.99 and it could be found on newegg.com
After reading many reviews it is the best "bang for my buck" that i can afford right now. When i go sli im not so sure i will be able to use this same psu but i have heard from people using it in sli builds. I dont suggeest getting a cheap power supply, at leased nothing really under 100 bucks. I did and i got a new one 1 week later. I spent $180 bucks now on power supply's and i have 1 $120.00 power supply.
I dont know if I trust that cheap of a power supply when overclocking...
....Ok.

It's not like its reputable or anything.

For the price I'd say get this Orion :http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...828919&CatId=0

I know it's not a name brand but has gotten great review and I've been using it so far with out problems. I will be doing some more overclocking with better cooling and will use a multimeter to see exactly how stable it is.
I just dont trusts unknown brands

Cheap and PSU should never be in the same sentence for a "What should I buy?" thread.
