I'd like to lightly drown some background noise in the office. I've got some white sound audios that I want to play continuously. Wavosaur is the only program I've found that will play audios in a continuous loop without the pause in between loops. Right now, I've got some speakers in the ceiling and will connect them to a computer, probably a cheapo netbook. I need suggestions if anyone has better ideas (maybe a different setup, other software, other hardware or mp3 player?). The smaller and cheaper the better. Thanks!

i know you can play a continuous loop with itunes. not sure if you have an apple product or not though.

personally i'd rather get some noise cancelling headphones and call it a day.

You can play a continuous loop with WMP and winamp, but they a pause in between loops. Does itunes pause? That makes me wonder if an ipod does.

Headphones would be nice, but this is for the office so that it helps with noise between rooms.

Thanks, but I only want the machine playing the sound clip, so no internet or anything else if at all possible. I'm thinking as basic, small, and cheap as possible. Plus I've got a sound that is more of air going through vents, so it sounds more natural for an office setting than rain.

I like the sounds of water falls and find that to be more enjoyable than the sounds of air coming from vents. Honestly, if you are going to spend the time to do the work for this why not have it play something that you will enjoy?

You can actually download it from the website. It's a 30 minute track too, so it's nice and long. But I guess that's a bit irrelevant if you're going for a different sound.

Yeah the sound is irrelevant here as I'll pick out the sound. What I need help with are ways to play the audio. Like I said, Wavosaur is the only thing I've found that will loop it without an interruption in between, and the smallest cheapest thing I've found to play it is a netbook. I'm just looking to see if anyone has other suggestions. I've thought about a simple mp3 player, but I don't know of one that plays continuously without the pauses between tracks.

I have a small air filter running 24/7 that generates plenty of white noise. And also make the air cleaner. In theory. Just gotta make sure and change the filter occasionally. Anyway, $30 at Target or WalMart and there ya go.

I've already got the air filter and it works nice, but I need to have control of the volume, so I'm going the speaker route. I'm pretty much settled on running a netbook. A 24 hour long song is just overkill. I have a 30 second song that loops continuously with Wavosaur flawlessly, so I think I'll be using that. I tried an mp3 player, but it also pauses between loops. Thanks for the suggestions though.

One thing came to mind regarding the mp3 player, and that is to check and see if an mp3 player loaded with Rockbox would work. I know gapless playback is a listed feature, but you may have to check what models support that. Maybe you'd need 2 files to loop into each other? This could be a low-cost elegant solution.

I play white noise on my Rockbox'd Sansa e260, but it only goes directly into my ears

edit: Gapless playback in Rockbox
