So I'm sitting here thinking about my rig and the endless possibilities out there these days and I realized... I AM OBSOLETE!

Yeah thats right, my system might be really strong and all, but wait til you hear the era im running in...

1. CPU: Athlon64 3700+ Clawhammer (YEAH ITS s754!(best one though))
2. Mobo: Gigabyte GA-K8NS
3. Graphics: ATI X800XT-AIW (nice nice nice card. OC's better than a lot, but its AGP~!)
4. Memory: 2gb corsairXMS ddr400 (2-3-2-6)(Ram is pretty nice)
5. Sound: Creative SB Audigy 4 (ok this is a nice piece still)
6. WD Raptor 36gb 10,000rpm (meh, its SATA)

Anyway, as you can see, some stuff is waaay overdue for an update.

But ill have to see about Intel vs. AMD and AM2 vs 939 etc.

Do i even need to upgrade? What's your take?

No need to update yet unless you do lots of multitasking, or ask much from newer games.
A new 939 setup is now dirt cheap, Conroe setups are the rage and they're coming down in price.
AM2 is newer but not too much better than the 939's.
If you can, hang on another 6 months for the new AMD K8's

I agree with lenzo but an upgrade on the video card would be good if you are a gamer.

Edit : No PCI-E on that mobo, you will have to upgrade your mobo too : /

Well, it has 1mb L2 cache. So I multitask really well for a single core. Just recenttly when i was running my TV tuner, burning a CD and playing DoDs did i notice multi tasking problems. My notebook is a mackbook pro with the dual core thing goin on, its nice but i cant get it to use both cores to do one thing.

And the whole gaming thing, All i lack now is SM3.0. The card is screaming fast otherwise.

Besides, they dont make a better AGP card. not Nvidia or ATI

It still looks like a worthy pc to me... im sure it outperformes my rig by a long shot, and i really dont need to upgrade, though i really want to... If your really dieing to upgrade something, just up the videocard to a 7800gs or something killer...

It has to be AGP. But, the card is better than any AGP I have seen

My son is using my old Intel PBZ875 with a 3.0C 478 and a Ati9600xt online playing BF2, CCS, etc.. without an issue on a machine about 3 yrs old.
He doesn't multitask but he hasn't yet complained.
Your 754 socket works better than my sons I'm sure, try to squeeze a few more months out of it, or hold out with an inexpensive 939 rig (mobo/cpu combo).

You could invest in a nice water cooling setup for more overclocking. Plus when newer stuff comes out, you can throw it on your upgraded hardware. And it will fulfill your need to upgrade (possibly).
