You don't need the 20-24 pin adapter since the motherboard only uses a 20 pin connector. You'll save about ten bucks there. Does your friend really need a modem? I didn't know that people are still using dial-up
However, I really doubt that you can put together an entire system for less than $300 with the specs you have so far. Even if you get the cheapest possible case, that'll still run you $30-40 and you'll probably end up having to buy a new power supply since the ones that normally come with cases die fast, especially if it's the ones that come with $30 cases.

How about another processor? The Sempron line is more budget friendly. Check this out at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819104249 It's about half as cheap as the 3000+ and still has 64-bit support.
