Hey Guys..

I need help building a top of the line gaming rig. I have $2100 in my budget.

Few guidelines..

1. Has to be AMD 64FX

2. 2GB of memory

3. Want at least 1 7800GT or GTX or possibly 2

4. I already have the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, and speakers so you dont have to include those in the prices..

thanks

well then if you only want those 3 things... i suggest getting:

a mobo that supports ddr2

that OCZ 1ghz ddr 2 ram i've read about

any 7800 gtx or maybe look into a 1900XT

and an fx- 55-60 will do nicely

AMD doesn't support DDR2 yet.

DDR2 does not exist in AMD platforms.

I would go with:
FX-55 - Ebay for $600-$700 or newegg for $800
DFI NF4 SLI-DR - $200 from newegg
Silverstone Strider 600W PSU - $170 from Newegg
OCZ Plat. 2GB(1GBx2) - $200
XFX 7800GTX - $470

There are some of the main components, still need cooling, case, etc, but that should give you a start.

for that price I'd say get a Opteron 148 (230$ish), DFI SLI DR Expert(again probably around 200$), 2gig (1gig x2) of tccd ram (150$), Antec truepower 2 or Seasonic S12 (110$) case: you choose (100-200$) HDD: 2x raptor 74gb (300$) Video Card: 7800GTX 256mb for 400$... then spend the rest on good water or phase change

The gains in having such an expensive cpu are not worth the extra money, you are better off getting an sli mobo and 2 vid card of some sort and spending ya money that way, then you can include sound also no worries. Somebody prove to me that an overclocked low budget amd cpu is much worse than a top of the line cpu. We are here to get the best out of what we have got so lets get overclocking the cheaper stuff to match or better the more expensive stuff. Isnt that whats its all about? I can buy a 7800gtx and a 3700+ for the same price as an fx series cpu or cheaper.

What resolution is your monitor capable of ? No point in a kick arse VGA that you can't utilise fully due to screen restrictions.

cheers

good point... you may want to lower your CPU to a 3700+ SD and get a decent LCD monitor.
