Well yesterday my grandpas 10 year old computer finely started bothering him becouse it was too slow (btw if that's not a hint he will be keeping whatever computer I chose for him for a long time!) So we went online and found this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113184

I thought this was a good choice becouse even though he probly dosent need 4 cores it leaves him more tim without buying a new computer. Plus it is upgradable to 16gb of ram if I eventualy needed to add some, just relise he is going to keep this for at least 8 years, is this the right computer for him???

For that much, you could build him something with alot better power and speed. But, if you can't, that build looks pretty nice.

Yeah. OK. What the budget? Perhaps we can come up with something that won't have speed sucking bloatware for you.

My advice, check all the OEM sites, like dell.com, hp.com, lenovo.com. Also, this Dell Inspiron desktop with an i5 is only $500, definitely would go Dell over Gateway, and i5 over Phenom II. http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-620/fs

NO! I only say no in this case because nobody wants to be grandpa's tech support/warranty support etc.

Well main problem is that I don't live neer my grandpa so it has to be pre built so he can hook it up. So its got to be prepackagedd and under 599 dollars. Not 600 becouse that looks bigger.

Why don't you build something like i3 SB, 6GB RAM and 750GB max

Then install Ubuntu . I had a look on youtube and the latest one looks really easy to use if you set it up for him. Either that or you can just install what ever OS he is using now if he doesn't want to re-learn everything.
