Across town or beside your house? If your friend is across town your router wont reach that far. Just go download hamachi and set up a private online network.

If he's house is beside your house, you can connect the two routers to each other, just buy an extremely long UTP cable
He is across town....Why cant i connect to him over the net by connectin to his IP addy? thats what I want to do, but his router assigns him the same IP that mine does 192.168.1.1.
Which Stronghold? Crusader?

If so, you need to forward some ports.

2300-2400 TCP/UDP.
47624 TCP/UDP.
6073 UDP.

After using that whatismyip addy, i found my actual IP address. So if i plug in his actual IP, it should get through his router and connect to his PC, rt?

Who ever is the host would have to have those ports that tNok85 mentioned. They can be forwarded in your router's setup (point your perferred internet browser to 192.168.1.1 and go into the forwarding setup)
