need help finding a balance

After being at 3.871Ghz for a while, I decided to try and get into the 1Ghz OC club. Well, for the last 15 minutes I've been pumping volts to get this just to windows. More volts meant I got closer and closer. Well, I've finally got to windows after two attempts at the same voltages.
I'm currently at 450x9 with 1.32v after vdroop (1.36 in bios)
Ram is running at 400/900 at 2.1v (stock rating is 1.8-1.9, is this safe?)
I found after pumping those up and still not being able to boot into windows, that upping my NB helped. That is currently at 1.36v in bios.
I'm going to run a linpack test, low memory stress to see if it is my cpu or ram that is limiting me. In the mean time any advice on how to stabalize this out would be nice, as im 99.9% positive it isn't right now.
Thanks in advance guys, this place is the best.

Well, your ram is rated at 800mhz and you are running them at 900mhz. That might be part of the reason why you are having trouble booting. Did you relax the timings on the ram along with raising the voltage?
Relax the ram timings and lower the voltage because they aren't meant to be overclocked very far.
I got about 25-30 seconds into linpack before it just shut down on me, though i think it was a thermal shut down because my temps reached 77 before shutting down. just reseatted my hs so hence the delay. what timings should i drop the ram too? there currently at 5-5-5-15
Try 6-6-6-18 timings. I know they're ugly, but those Gskill sticks aren't normally stable far past stock.
At 6-6-6-18 now. Went to try linpack again and got thermaly throttled again, then shut down. Im wondering at this point is it possible that im failing because my temps spike up so quick? or am i just being hopeful that i have a reason to go liquid....
edit: lowerd dram volt to 1.925 like suggested as well
Well 77c is way too hot, but it should be that high, even under linpack. Have you reseated the heatsink?
you shouldn't need water to get to 4.0. but it won't hurt. If you are throttling that is not a good thing.
yeah, i reseatted my xiggy. I switched to prime95, since its generaly known linpack spikes the temps 10-15c higher. Right now under prime im at 65c (70f ambient) and so far no troubles...

That's a lot better, congrats.

Not bad for a C0 stepping, at 1.34v is it? I've seen worse at least...

edit: running prime95, FF w/9 tabs, itunes, aim, cpuz, coretemp, speedfan, and EQ2. 100% cpu load and 3.79GB of ram being used.....no problems
Crashed after 2 1/2 hours under prime. I'm now 100% stable after 8 hour prime blend. Memory is at 6-6-6-18 2v and cpu is at 1.372v : /. not that far above spec so im not worried about premature failure
