i just finished putting my new computer build together and i installed windows 10 and it says it would restart the computer after it finished installing. it just turned off and did not restart. i had to turn it back on. The asus logo run then i get the overlocking failed error and i get the bios set up and i see that there is a "windows boot manager" on the top of a list for boot priority. bios is 1801. i do not know what is wrong. i've provided pictures below of the bios. i've put the settings on default in the bios. i do not know why it is having an over clocking failed error. i did not over clock anything. please help. i'm looking at my bios, it is reading/ detects my ram, ssd, and processor correctly. so i do not think its because of those. i cna't get my computer to work! help!

Strangely my 2666mhz ram shows as 2133mhz but is detected as 266mhz

These are the kingston hyperx 2666mhz. they have been over clocked to 3200mhz by previous owner before. so it should support xmp. my bios settings are default setting ive changed it couple times to make sure. why is it showing 2133mhz when 2667mhz?

When an overclocking failed occurs, default bios settings are loaded and when you save changes to bios, it reverts back to the previous bios settings you have entered (not the default ones).

That is why your memory clock speed for your ram is at 2133 MHz as the X.M.P profile is not currently activated. You have to go in the BIOS and at least save changes so it reverts from the fallback bios settings which are loaded on a failed overclock reported during BIOS post. If the clock speed is reading as 2667 instead of 2666 that is normal.

Windows Boot Manager appearing with the Samsung SSD is also normal. That means your Operating System is UEFI installed, which is a good thing as it boots up faster than a OS installed in legacy mode instead of UEFI.

I also wanted to point out that not all CPU's are equal for their integrated memory controller. Some can handle higher X.M.P profiles, some can't. It seems that is the case unfortunately for your CPU.

Increasing the System Agent voltage incrementally up by one or more may help with the stability of running an X.M.P profile.

my computer still can not boot windows and i do know why, setting it to ram frequency to 2666mhz does not work. i am no longer getting the overclocking failed error any more but when i do try to boot windows boot manager from my ssd, it just freezes either at the asus logo. if it gets past the asus logo it would freeze at the windows logo screen.

I might have said this already but the Integrated Memory Controller (A.K.A IMC) which is on the CPU are sometimes more robust than others meaning they can handle higher memory clock speeds. In your case, your Intel CPU may have a weaker Integrated Memory Controller (or less robust) meaning it cant handle higher memory clock speeds than others easily without additional voltage such as for System Agent Voltage (VCCSA). Correct me if I'm wrong.

In short, CPU A may have a stronger IMC than CPU B. Meaning that it can handle a higher memory overclock.

Can you go past the ASUS logo and boot to windows using the 2133 MHz memory clock?

I even had this same issue myself, where my 1866 MHz ram used to work fine with no issues on 2400 MHz, now it doesn't even boot stable on 2400 MHz. So I have to stick to the rated clock speed of 1866 MHz.

Anyway, when you set your ram to 2666 MHz, did you also manually type in the Ram timings? (e.g 10-11-11-27 for example).

my CPU is 5960x ,which one of the best on the market right now. i'm sure it can handle high overclocking of the ram. for my ram timings i just use the XMP, which does it for you. ive tried 2133mhz and it still the same issue.

i think it is a motherboard issue. i've tested all my other components and there is nothing wrong with them. A RMA has been requested by Asus and it is going to be shipped to be repaired or replaced. thanks everyone for helping.

Yeah it probably is if it can't even run on 2133 mhz.

If you haven't sent anything in yet, you might try manually entering the XMP profile settings. On my PC, if I enable the XMP profile, I get an "overclocking failed" message, but when I manually enter the same exact settings (frequency, timings, voltage), my PC boots right up.
