OK, I recently accedenlty formatted my iMac's HDD, and I'm trying to rebuild it using discs I currently have and I need help.
I reinstalled 9.0.4 and trying to get it up to 9.2 so i can install Mac OS X, but to do so I need to get the 9.1 free update from Apple, to install 9.2, easy right? WRONG!!!
I downloaded the file put it on a thumbdrive, got it on my iMac, it's a .smi.bin, so I figured that Stuffit Expander could easily extract the .smi file and it will be easy to isntall it, right? Wrong again....
It comes with the error "The Application program "Stuffit Expander" could not be opened, because a disk error occured" so i redownloaded Stuffit Expander 7 for it, got it on my trusty thumbdrive and got it on my iMac, it was in .hqx file, whch I never heard of but anyway, my iMac can't read the file, so what do I do? I tried to open the .bin file on my Vista, didn't work, it said it was corrupted or missing, so I redownladoed it, kept coming up witht eh same thing....what am I doing wrong? I was then thinking that it was my thumbdrive and me working with Vista to get the Mac files onto my iMac, but I did the same things last time when i was upgrading it....t before I burned the appropriate files on a disc, could this be any different?
well please reply, ask questions I will be on for the day...I will try to get it working in the meantime...
BTW I have these discs
Mac OS 9.0.4
Mac OS 9.2 Upgrade disc (Need to be 9.1 or higher to use)
Mac OS 10.0 (I lost this disc, do I need it?)
Mac OS 10.1 Upgrade
Mac OS 10.3 Upgrade (Non Bootable, need to be Mac OS X 10.1 or higher to use)
I was thinking about downloading it straight from the internet right onto my iMac's HDD, but I need to download Netscape or IE, or FF if it supports that far. I tried IE it was a .hqx as the Stuffit Expander was
I asked the computer guy at my old middle school, they ONLY use Macs, lol
So he said he could supply me with a 9.2 disc so i can install that and go straight back into 10.3 again, because sadly that 9.0.4 disc is the only bootable disc I have, so I would need to upgrade it from there, but since I should be getting that disc today, I can boot off of it and install 10.3 and dual boot it
