I erased my post so F the formalities this time. I'm a little irked. My picture also isn't showing up.

Anyway. I had folding working on one GPU. I was getting about 8K PPD.
I tried getting my CPU going and that messed everything up so I uninstalled everything (to the best of my knowledge).

I am trying to fold on 4 cores + one GPU.

I am using the nVidia GPU Client + the SMP Beta Client Gromacs SMP Core v1.74
I am running Vista Ultimate x64
i7 920 @ 3.8
~45C, ~55 when [email protected]

The picture explains most of my problems.
I keep getting that error on all 4 of my CPU clients.
My GPU works fine, although I'm at only about 2K PPD as opposed to my 8K earlier. My card also BEEPS. ***?!
Beeps 19 times, waits about 1 minute and then beeps about 4 times every 30 seconds or so.

I have 4 folders in program files called SMP, SMP x1, x2, etc.
In FahMon the squares are all yellow (except GPU).
3 of 4 Clients are on the same project. The coding inside the parentheses is different for all of them though. The 4th is on a different one but doesn't seem any different.

Client settings:
Using Idle cores @ 25%
I have also set it to low @ 25% for each of the 4 cores

Help please.

for your GPU, is the sound a solid continuous squeal? if so, it is just a capacitor squeal and that is normal.

for your SMP clients, I'm not quite sure what is going on..

Client settings:
Using Idle cores @ 25%

try reinstalling with requesting idle usage @ 100% and set priority in the task manager to low.
this will make you fold most efficiently, and the SMP clients will allow any other program that needs the CPU power to just use it.

sounds to me like your SMP is installed wrong... or you forgot the -smp flag maybe... 1 smp client should use all of your cores and 100% of your CPU...

EDIT: just looked at the pictures, looks fine, the flag is set... did you use different machine IDs? and is your windows time set correctly? also disable the verbosity...

smp flag is there, check the first screenie.

I believe it is because of the idle usage requested, I could be wrong though.

EDIT: saw your edit after I posted

I know he has an i7 but why four instances of Windows SMP? Wouldn't a single instance with -smp8 (IIRC) use all four cores and the hyperthreading.

As far as the beeps, are they like motherboard beeps or squeals?
I changed all that stuff.. I think.
I set it to 100% but it is still on idle. That's what you meant, right Smoke?

Everything is still yellow.

I did smp -1 -2 -3 -4 for each of the folders, why would 8? dont necessarily want all of em running unless there would be a huge difference.

yes, idle on the first option, then 100 right below it.

try running ONLY the '-smp' flag and nothing else on ONE instance on SMP and see if you get it running right.

I'm not sure if you can run four instances of SMP in vista..

with my Q6600 I can only run one and all 4 cores go to 100%
you may be able to run two as the i7 has 8 threads compared to the Q6600's 4 threads..

OK.. well I think it's working differently than it was which is a good start. I don't have the patience to wait 20 minutes and see how it's working so I'll let it run overnight and see what happened and will update you all on how it went. I am going to try to delete the work for the other two clients and see if they will all be on different projects.

Feel free to post more ideas for in the morning

Thanks everyone.

As far as the GPU perhaps try opening your task manager and setting the FahCore_11/14.exe to normal and see if that raises your PPD on it. I think the SMP is stealing all the CPU cycles so the card cannot fold. If that works then follow this guide on SetPriority and then set you FahCore to whatever works and doesn't cause to much stuttering while surfing etc.

Don't give up we will help.

Edit: Forgot to add yellow means it is working, and it shows it is. I agree with smoke to many instances of SMP running and the computer is bogging down.

it was already on normal for some reason. I tried lowering it low... still beeps.
Everything is all on a different project.
My temps are up to 70's. Don't know how bad that is.

If yellow means it is functioning, what is green?:swearing:

Green means FahMon has approximated your Points per day (PPD) The only really bad ones are blue, not in the right location to get read the work being performed and red which always says hung on mine.

If your card is still sitting low try above normal. I have mine set at realtime as the VMware seems to really want the CPU cycles.

System crashed. Joy.
There was no percentage change in any of my 5 clients. I should be able to do two and my GPU but I'll test that later tonight.
