I have acquired through spoils of war per say, a Athlon X2 6000 @ 3.0GHz CPU and a Q6600 Quad. I am not sure of the exact model number of the AMD but know that its pretty quick and is AM2. I play PC games moderately but not to the extreme. I want to know which would give me better performance.

Q6600 for sure, definitely a superior CPU. It may have a lower clock speed but you can clock it to 3GHz on pretty much any board out there, with pretty much any chip out there.

Money no issue? = Phenom II X6 1100t

Savings/Not Planning to Upgrade = Phenom II X4 965 BE

Just want to be able to game? Athlon II X2 240/Phenom II X2 550BE or 555 BE

You *might* be able to unlock the dual Phenoms to quads.

EDIT: Sorry didn't understand question, go with Intel.
