the default changed to notepad and i dont know how to change it back

cant open rededit, cmd or system restore or anything at all. not sure how i managed to get firefox going to post this

1. Open Command Prompt by typing cmd in RUN dialog box.

2. Now provide following command:
cd\windows

3. It'll activate Windows folder. Now provide following command to open Registry Editor:
regedit

4. Now goto following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe
In right-side pane, change value of Default key to exefile

5. Now goto:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\com…
In right-side pane, change value of Default key to:
"%1" %*

6. Thats it. Now exit Registry Editor and restart your Windows. Now you should be able to open EXE files without any problem.

Cannot open regedit as i already said

its not regedit, type cmd in the run (win+"R") and the command prompt would launch

I can only get cmd through task manager and when i type regedit it opens in notepad
When i use run cmd it also opens in notepad

if you can launch command from task manager, do so and then follow from step 2

I had something similar happening on a PC a friend asked me to look at... But every single .exe opened media center :l

I downloaded the file and merged the reg file for exe and done
I can relax now

Also thx to huzz for trying but as i said cmd and regedit are exe files so couldn't be opened to change the reg manually
