Hi OCN

I have got a Bonus from work
£470.00

I want to use £350 upgrading one of my rigs (GAMING)

Specification of Rig

Intel E2220 (VID 1.2125) @ 3.3GHz/ P5KPL-AM G31/ HD4850 512MB/ 2GB Adata Memory DDR2 @ 1000mhz/ 80GB Hard Drive O/S/ 500GB Hard Drive Storage/ DVD Rom/ Vista Home Basic 32bit/ Antec 900/ AF7Pro/ Trendsonic 650w

I was thinking of getting a HD4850X2 1024MB Version for £245.00 this card will last for a good year and a half plus many new games of 2009 should hopefully support crossfire and a 64bit o/s

Or many a new Motherboard like an X48 or P45 and buy another HD4850 and run it in crossfire plus 64bit O/S (I already own 2 kits of 4GB ram)
X48 = £155 or P45 = £130
Another HD4850 = £115
Vista Basic 64 OEM = £80
It then means installing all my drivers and games and what not plus I don’t think I’ll get a lot more speed out of my E2220

Another way could be an AMD AM3 set up

CPU
Motherboard
O/S

I cannot see this helping with gaming

What do you think ocn

I'd go with a new processor, 4 gb kit of ram and maybe a harddrive.

I'd post links but I don't know what the big online retailer is in UK.
Gaming? I'd say get an E8400 and a Gigabyte EP45 UD3P, so you have a great board and the option to run crossfire. Then get another HD4850.
HD4850 in crossfire would be a great suggestion. Intel E8400 should be enough and there's always chance to overclock. Take 4GB RAM and you should be fine.

i'd just go for a GTX 280 OC2. the cost of getting a new mobo for crossfire eats into the budget too much, and an E2200 at 3.3 will be fine for games. if you sell the 4850 then you'll have even more cash to blow. with the rest of the cash you can get a new HDD. maybe one of these 640 gb ones. i have one and it is very fast. though i did have to RMA it a few weeks in but still...

not to mention, if RMA issues arise, scan is good at that (they are who i bough the HDD from and they sent it back pronto with no hassle) and BFG have an RMA center in wales apparently.

Good call on the gpu, but I'd go for the 640gb Caviar Black. 32mb of cache and dual processors. It's supposed to be one of the fastest 7200rpm drives available, it will be faster than that Caviar Blue you suggested.

On another note, can you even run a 4850x2 or a 4870x2 on a non crossfire motherboard?

Sell the E2200 and G31 board. Get E8400 and UD3R (single 4850) or UD3P (CF in near future).
Cool cool i might even stick with the board because it's not bad really
I think upgrading to E8400 is an awesome idea for you. The increase in L2 cache over the E2200 will benefit gaming a lot. Then upgrade to 4Gb of ram. Seeing as your Mobo has only a single PCI Express x16 slot then you could maybe sell your 4850 and upgrade to 4870 since prices are going down. Possibly wait for 4890. Another option is to go with Nvidia and upgrade to GTX 280/285.
For gaming i think your better off with,

An E8400 £152
