Hi Guys,

Im thinking of buying a new graphics card and i always had my sights set on the GTX470 but now that the 5 series cards have come out im wondering whether i should invest in one instead.

Does anyone know the ratio of money spent to actual gain in performance? Should i stick with the 470 for the money i will save or is going for a 570 really worth it?

Also, which is the best card out of the 5 series? I know that most people reckoned the 470 was the best all rounder in the 4 series cards, i will be overlocking probabaly anyway so if anyone can point me in the right direction here i would be greatful!

Cheers guys!

Is there any particular company that i should go for? in the good old days i would have gone for XFX but they've sold their souls to ATI now. All the current companies i havnt really heard of apart from gigabyte and palit but i dont know what theyre like with graphics cards.

570 performs alot better than a 470...proof? Their both Fermis so I'm not sure how you concluded that a 570 is so much better. The 570 uses less power, so you will have less heat. Don't get me wrong, the 570 is a better card but not "alot better."

Both Palit and Gigabyte make good Nvidia cards....it's a matter of preference.

As Zmanster said, its a matter of preference, I would personally go for EVGA or ASUS.

EVGA has the best current warranty available.

If I were you I'd do a 560TI...You're not losing much in terms of performance to the 570 and you're looking at a big improvement over the 470's.

Agreed!! I don't know where these posters come up with comments like this. Both cards are Fermis. How are they SO MUCH better?!?! As I stated in my above post, the 5 series need less power thus producing less heat. This where they are better.

Suggest you check benches.

HW Compare

15 avg FPS improvement in ALL games/apps for 15% less power consumption.

Check your facts before posting next time, please.

You may want to check your facts too. Instead of cherry picking a site that compares three games, maybe you should check out a more thorough review here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_560_Ti_Sonic/28.html

Overall, techpowerup's extensive review has an overall performance increase (at all resolutions...not just 1920X1200) of 8%. At 1920X1200, the review has the 560 ti beating the 470 by 12%. So, instead of picking and chosing your reviews, you may want to take a look at more than one. Additionally, I don't consider a 12% increase a BIG performance upgrade. If a 470 is averaging 60 fps, then a 560 ti will average 67 fps. Many people play at 1680X1050 and the gain is only 3% or 2 fps. Anyway, again, not large gains considering different resolutions.

Didn't cherry pick, chose the simplest form and I'm absolutely correct.

The Palit has the lowest stock specs of the TI's and your source even concurs with a 12% (3% MOE) difference as opposed to the EVGA 560TI that my source tested.

The difference is 15% overall once doing the math and a consumption difference of over 20% in all tests INCLUDING Techpowerup.

Considering the above, that is a large gain...15% increase for 20% less power isn't a 'big deal' considering they're the same price? Sure fooled me.

15% isn't a big jump, and you can get a 470 for much cheaper at micro center out here they got them for 200 each.

#1 He's in Gravesend ~ There are only 2 of those in the world.

1st is in the UK.

2nd is in Brooklyn which is cross town AND 3/4 down the LIE to the closest Microcenter...In other words, it's a 2-3 hour commute cross town.

It would literally (with the price of gas) be easier for him to order it from Newegg which, has them at the same price.

So considering where he's living the 15% increase in performance, 20% decrease in consumed power is well worth paying the same price off the egg.

If you are looking at 570, look for a non-reference pcb with better power phase system. Currently in the US the only ones available are the triple slot asus DCII or the MSI TFIII 570 afaik.

MSI TFII 560 is a good card too if you look to the 560's.

Also, as far as warrnty goes... it depends... if you keep your cards for 3+ years, yes EVGA is best, as long as you register it within 30 days. If you plan to have your card less than 2 years, EVGA is not as good, because the warranty is non-transferable, unlike MSI which has a warranty tied to the serial number so you can sell it with the remaining warranty.

There's only 1 microcenter in our area...The other is in Yonkers, assuming he lives in the US...If he doesn't the point is moot.

They're the same exact price on the Egg or TD...Considering his location, if either, it's still easier to order it off the egg than huff it.

Unless he decides the performance/consumption isn't worth it and decides to "obtain" it VIA one of you...

I still think the 40$ premium he's going to pay is worth it.

15% more performance for 20% less the power is a big deal.

You keep saying our area, but you don't know where he lives, thus it would be YOUR area. There are many microcenters, and for higher res the 470 will help more, plus can be OC'd more, all for 50 dollars less, hell yeah! You are one of those guys who buys a 590 cause it's cool and new, even though it has no increase(and in your case, it performs worse than two 580s and kills itself).
