So I just recently got a HDMI compatible monitor (I know I know...but the CRT before was and still is so beautiful!).

Anyways, when running it straight from the video card at Full RGB 4:4:4 is looks fantastic. When running it through my Denon AVR-1610 receiver at the same settings the color red looks smeared.

I have found that running at YCbCr 4:2:2 fixes the red issue but then the over all picture quality seems to take a quality hit.

I can't find much about my receiver in terms of HDMI processing and can't find anything in the menus for HDMI...so am I just screwed here or am I missing something?

could you take some screenshots of your settings and maybe a photo of what you mean by the reds 'smeared'? Also, what's your monitor, GPU and do you have a DVI monitor or HDTV you can try it on?
