I doubt you'll be able to get it that high. As the earlier Phenom I's do not like high HT Clocks, and it has a low multiplier.

But a Noctua NH-U12p-SE2 should do the job just fine.

THough, a Tuniq Propeller, Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme, Cooler Master V8, or Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer should do the job just fine as well.
Corsair H50. I know, I know. It's "technically" water, but is normally treated on the level of air coolers. I love this product.

You won't be able to get it to 3 GHz.
I would be better to sell it a get a better X4 and stay with stock cooler

Why not? I'm not being cynical, I'm really curious.

Spending that much money on a first gen phenom is kind of stupid. I would say get something cheap. If you have a frys in your area you might want to check it out. I saw some 92mm Kingwin HDT sinks for $15.

Because Phenom I's can't take high HT Clocks (FSB) and your chip does not have a high Multi so it's most likely not going to hit 3.0ghz.

Total PITA, but see if you can find a Coolermaster Gemin II. They're really great when you strap two high speed/cfm 120mm fans to them.
you should sell it and get a low phenom II . they are cheap now and then you can get a hdt 1283 with MX-2 on it and be ready to be at 19 to 25 idle

You'll be sorely disappointed. The max I predict you'll get on aftermarket cooling is 2.3-2.4ghz heh. The Phenom I's were terrible OC'rs.

If you can get your ref clock to 270MHz (very rare), they you're still looking at less than 2.5 GHz.

You're better off with a 550 on stock cooling.

I couldn't push more than 240MHz out of my ref clock with a 8750 BE.
