Networking Noob with questions.

Im thinking about connecting 3 more PC's to my network, but since i dont want to buy another switch, im thinking about using an old P2 i have lying around.
Problem is, it has to connect to the router via WLAN, and the connected PC's will be wired.
So, could it work? and would i need software for it?

Current situation:

Code:

Code:
Modem -> Router -> PC 1-3 (WIRED) , PC 4 (WLAN)
            |
            Switch (WIRED)
              |
         PC 5-11 (Wired)
Future situation:

Code:

Code:
Modem -> Router -> PC 1-3 (Wired) , PC4 (WLAN)
           |  \\
           |   Switch (wired) -> PC 5-11
           |
    wireless Switch (old PC) -> PC 12-XX (wired)
Btw, PC 5-11 are some AthlonXP rigs i set up in the attic for small LANS with friends, thus they have a 56kb/s download limit

Yeah it could work, if you need software it depends on the OS you are using as well as the type of WiFi card you are using.

There will be a performance loss associated with the wireless bridged network, but it will be dependent upon the number of connected machines on the secondary network.

The WiFi card im using, works under any recent OS, it's some realtek i believe.
With software, i mean are there handy programs to use? i know it can be set up in both linux as well 2000/XP, its just uneasy for me, so thats why i'm asking if there is a neat program for that

I know there will be a slight performance loss, But really, if i cap the bandwidth to 200kb/s down / 50kb/s it'll still be enough for what im using the PC's for. (folding/internet/mediacentre-> films will be played over the network from the server)

Yes, theoretically it should work. But there's some things to consider.

I assume the old computer will have a WLAN adapter that will allow it to be bridged with the router. How are you planning on plugging in computers '12-XX'? Separate NICs plugged into the board?
Easily done
With XP or Vista, bridging is pretty easy, so it doesn't matter if you use a switch after the second rig or not.

I still got a few NIC's lying around, or i may use an 8 port switch.
