Hey guys just ordered a small cheap 5.1 setup.

Its a step up from my crappy Logitech 2.1.

This is the one I ordered http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...tech/E001.html
I Know its cheap but it will do me for now.

The question I have is will I be able to connect it straight to my mobo in my sig and will it work with full 5.1 without me having to get a sound card?

Cheers for looking I will post some pics when it arrives!

Yeah it'll just have orange and black jacks to go along with the green one. Plug them into your board and you're set.

yeah, thats it. Make sure your board has 6 audio connections on it, including the green, orange, and black for 5.1. You should be gtg with that.

yeah it has Green, Black, Orange, Gray, Pink and Blue.
wow, those are some nice 5.1! i'd love to have those lol. my 5.1 is ~3 years old, and i listen to a lot of bass heavy music lol so its time to upgrade!

but yea, you can get away with onboard, most new mobo's come with onboard HD, so its not SO bad, but still, a sound card is normally the better solution, but that's a problem for another day lol.

perfect man, thats all you need, and to enable it in windows, right click on the speakers icon, click on playback devices, then configure, and set it up for 5.1.

Its few steps down from even the crappy Logitech 2.1.
for my mobo i had to go into sound realtek hd audio manager and set it to 5.1, as well as in my speakers make sure they were in 5.1. best of luck - report back on sound quality.

so if i got a sound card would there be an improvement over the onboard even with these cheap speakers?

it really depends upon how these speakers sound, and how good of a sound card you wanna get. It would be pointless to buy a auzentech forte for these, but say an x-fi xtrememusic or gamer for cheap would be a great fit.

Most definitely. Most people will recommend getting a sound card just because it seems to give much greater quality and better sounds overall. It's an awesome investment.
You can usually find really nice cards for cheap too. Lots of deals going on everywhere.
