But the chip will be horrendously expensive, it is designed for memory speed and not meant for personal use.

Though i would expect you to get some impressive times on encoding.

Realistically? Given the W5580 (codename Gainstown) is in the neighborhood of $1500 as a 1k unit price, I'd hazard a guess of $2000-$2500 as a 1k unit price with a single unit being possibly $2500-$3000 for the new 8-core server cpus (codename Beckton)
. But I'm just guessing since Intel has a long history of high prices to start with.

yeah i was thinking in the 1000-2000 range, but we will see it will be relased in the next few weeks.

Think this would be a good cpu to run game servers on, I love my E5520 but I want more power to run more game servers.

Nehalem EX will probably be on socket 1567. You would need a new motherboard.
