New audiophile on lappy

Switching from my desktop to my laptop, I've noticed a huge difference in sound quality. I'm now wanting to get some nice sound on my laptop as I'm most likely parting out with my desktop (sig rig) but was wondering what are some good suggestions on a sound card (express card) headphones and amp if needed. Any help will be appreciated.

If you want something small: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mul...udigy2-zs.html
or the x-fi version

or get an external DAC if portability isn't the priority

Edit: 300 posts wohoo

Hmmm the creative labs sound cards look good for it, and I still would be playing some games on my laptop so that would be nice. Would like something that goes into the Express slot in my laptop, unless a DAC would be that much more impressive with sound (and not a huge drain on cpu load as I've heard) .
either or should be fine. what kind of laptop processor / ram? should be able to carry the load...

.Sup: Looks good

tUDJ: Link doesn't work

What headphones should I go for? Listen mostly to rock and games and would prefer them to be under $200, but if the quality of the sound card won't be that great I wouldn't want to spend too much on the headphones then.

so comfy and they will sound great with that x-fi card. you will have to use 6.5mm>3.5mm adapter though when you will plug them into the card

Ok works now, could of just been my internet
. So how does that work? Use output of soundcard into the input and then my headphones into the output? Would it be worth it to spend money on that if I'm only spending $200 on headphones?

Also BTW, thanks everyone so far, I would of had no clue where to start looking these things up
.

From your laptop you would use the USB input, it can also charge via the USB.

In regards as whether it's worth it, it depends how much you value great sound quality. The HD555 do respond to being amped, I found the difference vs. my X-Fi output and my amp to be quite noticeable. I also noticed an improvement in sound quality when I added my DAC.

The benfit of this amp/dac is it is portable and you can use the the amp independently of the DAC.

Take a look at some other DAC/Amp combo's, if you don't need portable then the Zero DAC has great reviews, along with the Beresford DAC I have.

Ok then, so would it be better to just get this amp: http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=37 Along with the x-fi (comes out to about the same as the DAC/Amp combo).

I would suggest against that, as it is designed to be used with mp3 players on a battery.

still works great with a computer, especially since it needs to be portable with the lappy.

It's designed for both MP3 players and PC use, hence the USB DAC function.
