So i don't personally have an intel. I am helping my friend build a computer. He wants Intel though, so i thought i would come for a little help. He wants a quad core, and 3 gigs of ram. The price range is around 500 or somewhat cheap. The computer will used for Work, remote desktop and what not, as well as some gaming. And currently no video card, so mobo needs to have onboard. I am currently putting a list together but thought i would come to the experts of OCN. Thanks in advance.

total comes out to $526 including shipping but to ny shipping is like 31 dollars

Depending if you have any idea for upgrades or OCing, then I can change the stuff I chose. It can go cheaper, I guess.
VGA can probably go cheaper too probably.

I dont claim to know much about intel, but I can understand the rest of the build enough to share some good finds.

Here are some different ideas for the build.

PSU- OCZ 500w $20 after MIR:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341012
RAM- Ironically more OCZ (get 2 kits for the "3"gigs):http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227198

The GPU is more tricky, because its hard to tell what "light" gaming is... but usually money is better spent on a GPU than a processor if you're gonna play games. I would drop a little more cash on a HD4650, or maybe even a HD4670

That comes out to be roughly the same price, and should feel plenty "fast" for your friend.

Good luck with the build.

His light gaming should be alright with on-board that is why he stated it, but then I just went ahead to get a pretty good card. It could go a lot cheaper though. I just was not sure what else he would do with the build.

Agreed, the cards I linked were close to the same price, with better performance, but we could go the other way and suggest a HD4350 or something on that level. I would just hate for the friend to try to play a game, and feel like he didn't get his money worth, and so many people judge how "fast" a computer is on how well it plays games, since most of the time, I bet this guy will just be surfing the web. Anyway, no hard feelings, just different ideas, thats all.

Also, I just noticed that the q6600 is OEM... so he'll need a HSF, or he can just get the retail box for $5 more.

Just so everyone knows, my friend ran into a little bit of issue with paying for the whole comp. So it will be put off for a little bit. Thank you for your input it will be used for the final purchase.
