Hey Guys,

After over a year break and selling my X79 computer rig and everything I got back on to PC gaming..
Now I had no longer such a huge budget so there had to be compromises this time
The question is, is this enough and i5-6500 with H110 will hold for few years or should I really go for 6600k + Z170 for 1440p gaming with GTX 1080 ?
Would i5-6500 bottleneck 1080 ?

Here is the rig:
Processor .......: Intel® Core™ i5-6500 + SilentiumPC Fera 3 HE1224
Memory ...........: 2x8GB Kingston HyperX Fury Black DDR4 2133 MHz CL14
Motherboard ..: MSI H110 GAMING
Power supply .: Seasonic S12II-620 620W
Monitor ............: Dell S2716DG 27" 144Hz 1440p G-Sync

Get what you're willing\able to spend. Even Core 2 Quad/1st Gen iX can play current games well. A 6500+1080 will be a nice setup though.

Well, I bought 6500 with H110 because that saved me over 100 euro which I can now use on GPU and I thought about getting 970 only at first so it make sense to me to get locked CPU because difference in FPS on some youtube videos was like 1-2 fps max between 6500 and 6600k / 6700k
now there are new GPUs and I got budget for 1080 so I thought I'll get for it if it won't be a problem with my 6500
or maybe I'll get 1070 only, because prices are crazy for 1080 now, there is like 10-20 fps difference between 1070 and 1080 reviews now but around 250 eur price difference
I don't know, I want to play max settings 1440p

H110 is a motherboard not a cooler in this case..

H110 motherboard does not support more than 2133mhz on ram
Also I don't know.. maybe some number of games do profit but it would not seem so based on this review: http://www.legitreviews.com/ddr4-memory-scaling-intel-z170-finding-the-best-ddr4-memory-kit-speed_170340/5

From my point of view at this moment.. H110 motherboard + i5-6500 is really sweet combination for 1440p gaming and investing saved money in to GPU is the better option than going for Z170 and 6600k and resulting in lower GPU budget

TLDR version: investing 100 eur more to GPU results in more frames than investing 100 eur more to CPU/MB/RAM.

Cheapest ASRock Z170 MB is 110,90eur here
MB that I currently have cost me 63,78eur so that means I'd have to invest 47,12eur in to MB just to allow non K OC which as far as I understood is not guaranteed nor supported

Current Kingston 2133MHz RAM cost me 57,58eur
Cheapest ADATA 3000MHz RAM is 73,90 so that means another 16,32eur investment for 0,5fps gain in games

Considering that in total it is 80,1eur investment.. isnt it better to invest this money in to GPU ? Investment in to GPU would give me more FPS than investing in to MB/RAM and OCing CPU. isn't that true ?

Anyway, my question was whether i5-6500 could limit/bottleneck gtx 1070/1080 mostly.. because I KNOW if I invest money in to better GPU I will gain more than investing that money in to CPU/MB/RAM.

If the 1070/1080 are your GPU options then I would opt for the 1070 + Z170 chipset + 3000MHz or higher DDR4 instead the locked down i5 + 2133 DDR4 and a 1080.

High speed DDR4 has been shown to make a significant difference in minimum frame rates.
