Hi,
I am building new system.

Considering the Q9650 on an Asus Rampage Extreme

OR

an i7 something on the x58 version of the above board.

Either setup with dual ati 4870x2's

Is it worth it to go with i7 now because of potential issues that it is so new? Or should I just stick with the Q9650 on x48 and overclock it

id go with the i7, but thats just me. From the numerous reviews that have been out, it seems that the i7 is holding on pretty good without any problems. The only problem I have been is newbies trying to overclock it.

if you dont already have the X48 setup then you should either wait for prices to drop in the coming months or go ahead and plunge into the i7 setup. but please dont buy the extreme model.... ever.

I think if you have the money going i7 is worth it. Buying the i7 920 and Asus Rampage II Extreme I think would be an awesome build. Definitely see good performance. Read this review on Core i7 and multi GPU from Guru3d.com Since you are getting two 4870x2.

If you're already going DDR3 then by all means go Core i7. Just don't forget to get three matched RAM sticks.
