New Build

I've been out of the Windows World for about eight months now (damn you MacBook!), and I really want to get back in it. I'm giving my current Sig Rig to my mother as sort of a gift, and I'd like to start over from scratch and build something new. It really would just be a gaming machine, running the likes of Orange Box, F.E.A.R 2, CoD:4, Red Alert 3, and Sins of a Solar Empire.

I have no idea what AMD is offering or Intel, but I'm going to assume that AMD is still offering the best midrange CPUs, so I believe I'll go with them. And I really love my 3600+. So if anyone has any suggestions parts wise, please lemme know.

The only thing I want to make a necessity is another P180 (or whatever Antec has in it's place) for the case. I just love my P180B.

it's a phenom 2 x3 gaming rig for sure. they beat the fastest intels in gaming.

so how much is your budget? and at what resolution do you want to play?
Should I look at AM2+ or AM3 socket CPUs?

I'm looking probably around $500/600 to spend, obviously the CPU/motherboard is where I care the most about and am willing to spend the most money.

And right now I'm gaming at 1440x900, and that probably won't change anytime soon.
Okay, so I want to look at AM3 CPUs, and you guys think the Phenom II X3 720 is the best choice?
Alright, sounds good. What about motherboard?
Wow...Newegg doesn't have a lot of AM3 boards for sale.
I take it AM3 is relatively new?

its somewhere around $800 modify around this and you should be good and you can upgrade to am3/ddr3 once they come out with more choices...

AM3s fit with the AM2+ socket?
Black Edition just gives an unlocked multiplier right? Is it really all that worth the extra money?
