I knew the speakers and sound card are bad (sound card because I don't think I'll ever go past 2.1 channel sound and speakers because I can always use headphones/swap 'em with my dad's), but the monitor is bad? It seems to have pretty good specs.

Well its not necessary to have widescreen but its the wave of the future, better response time, viewsonic, and only a lil' bit more money
Edit: oh im sorry, just noticed, better contrast on the DCLCD and viewsonic is analog... Gimme a sec and ill find another.

DVI widescreen is the only way to go, I think you will be sorry if you don't. Spend a few extra dollars now or maybe even none, and you will like it. I went from a $300 19" sony lcd analog and no widescreen and I was amazed when I got my current monitor.

Go to BestBuy and check out the difference, just look at both types, they have them set up right next to eachother, you will not want analog or 4:3 anymore.

OK, I think I see the difference, I changed the monitor. But are there any other suggestions more around the core components (i.e. mobo, processor, RAM, stuff like that). I'd like to know your opinions. For the record, note that all of these things are way better than the computer that I'm currently using. So "your cheaping out" isn't actually true. I'm just not going all out expensive, because anything is better than what I have now.

ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148017
667, but I hear it overclocks like a beast. It uses the same chip as the team rams. Don't know why such a great ram and barely anyone knows about it.

I agree with everything but personally I love my Viewsonic 19 inch and its not widescreen. I would go with whatever is cheaper monitor wise, as long as it still has a very fast response time. The VX922 I have is 2ms Im not sure if there is anything faster yet.
