New Dell laptop freezing up

391 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  BIGGUN
OK, got a new laptop yesterday. After doing some updates and program installs, i am getting random freezing. Locking up everything for 5-15 secs. sometimes it happens every min, others it happens only every hour or so. I am monitoring temps and not going above 58C. This is a i3 2310m quad core. Cant figure it out. just did updates and restarted and still doing it.

Why not do a fresh install of Windows?
That's what I always do when I get a new laptop.
1. To get rid of the little bloat that comes with the laptop.
2. To start on a clean slate and download the latest drivers etc.

Wouldn't even bother doing that. Dell might potentially moan because you formatted it. Return it ASAP.

Just so you know, I bought a refurb Dell XPS with an i3 and GTX420M and I love it. Cost me £400 and was a fantastic deal. Fast, well built and brilliant speakers!
I highly doubt it. I own many Dell laptops and Dell desktops, and have dealt with their CS many times (failing HDD's etc) and they never once had a problem about reformatting etc.
Well reformatting is out of the question. Cant get into details but what I can do to this is limited
Restore it from the recovery partition and try again?
